2002 Interview at the Star Wars Artists’ Guild

Interviews with the staff illustrators were some of the contents that we planned as the original Star Wars Artists’ Guild was being developed. The current incarnation of the site does not have the old interviews, which were fun and had a running gag of people hiding behind curtains throughout. Here is a copy of the interview that Derek Jones did with me, which was the second interview to be featured on SWAG: DJ: I’ve spoken with our first featured artist, Khairul Hisham, a fantastic artist from Malaysia that we are proud to have as a Guild Member. His style is greatly reminiscent of the artwork found in WEG sourcebooks and it turns out, he’s a really interesting fellow. KH: I’m glad to be having this interview with you, Derek. It’s not everyday I get interviewed in the Waldorf-Astoria. *sigh* Well! I can dream, can’t I? DJ: Yes, yes you can! […]

Greedo Goes To Duro

[[image:greedo-goes-to-duro.jpg:Greedo, he goes to Duro!:right:0]]Back in late 2001-early 2002 when I was really down and out, one of the things I tried was sending samples of sequential comic art to comic companies. I never really followed up on them, but one of the things I came up with was the pencilling of an eight-page original unscripted Star Wars story entitled “Greedo Goes To Duro“. It was something that could have easily made for an issue of the now-discontinued Star Wars Tales anthology from Dark Horse Comics. But it wasn’t. This week, I found photocopies of the pages I did after I went digging under the bed. Seriously, it was deep in a folder under many folders in a dust-layered box under the bed. When I found it, I too had become heavily encrusted with ancient dust, dust bunnies, dust pangolins and dust capybaras. Here it is presented in the Gallery […]

Even The Exhibits Mooned Me (With D6 Stats)

Muzium Negara focuses primarily on the cultural history of this magical fantasy realm currently known to the world as “Malaysia”, although some natural history of the land is touched upon. Outside, we were greeted by a number of old train exhibits. In other words, there were more trains here than any one time I’m at the LRT station waiting for a train to arrive. Irfan poses by the Inscription Stone of Terengganu, unearthed at Kuala Berang at the turn of the 20th century. 700 years old, it’s evidence that Islam thrived in that region at the early 14th century. This guy is from my old neighbourhood – The Perak Man. How old is this guy? Take our current year: 9391 Before Guild. Go back about 2000 years we arrive at the dawn of the Common Era at 11391 B.G. Between then and now, we’ve had the Roman Empire, the Dark […]

An Awesome Trip To The National Museum!

I haven’t been to the Muzium Negara this century. So we thought we’d take a drive there with Irfan who has requested a visit there for several weeks now. Unfortunately someone (well, two humans) made an illegal u-turn at a stop-light, causing the column of cars behind them to brake immediately. It was no problem for us, really. I braked on time. However, the guy behind us did not. But I’m thankful, cause this is quite a minor fender-bender. A quick talk, and we’re off again. No fuss, no muss. I mean, it’s not like it’s a major accident which causes a person to break their leg, blood everywhere with bones sticking out of wounds at odd angles. Or an accident that strips the skin and flesh off the shin of a person. Or an accident that smashes a person’s patella, requiring many surgery session to remove the small bits […]

Blizzard! And Allie Plays in the Snow

First big snowfall of 2010 today. We had some snow in December but since Allie had strep and all we decided not to expose her to the cold. But now she is better and we had four inches of snow on the ground and more falling from the sky, we decided to go out and have some fun! We bundled her up in her snowsuit: [[image:allie484a.jpg:Happy little eskimo:center:0]] She couldn’t see very well with the hood up and preferred it down: [[image:allie473a.jpg:Let’s go outside!:center:0]]  And off we went, for Allie’s first encounter with snow. [[image:allie474a.jpg:Breaking a path through unshovelled snow:center:0]]  [[image:allie475a.jpg:Concentrating on her feet:center:0]]  [[image:allie476a.jpg:What is this weird stuff?:center:0]]  [[image:allie477a.jpg:Sitting in the snow:center:0]]  [[image:allie478a.jpg:Fuyooo!
