Fare thee well

Lost in Translation

We had two weeks to spend in Kuala Lumpur because of my course. Let’s get the unpleasantness out of the way first: I had the flu for two days in the first week, then three in the second. It was unpleasant not just because I felt like a popsicle all day but also because it was expensive, but I did not miss a day of class. During the weekend that marked the midpoint of our adventure in KL, we spend the night at Kak Nor’s house where Irfan played to his heart’s content with his cousins! On Sunday, I went to continue the Modesty Blazing Star Wars Edge of the Empire campaign, picking up where we left off 14 months ago when I still lived in the city. Ain and Irfan bought a Corellian VCX-100 freighter which I put to good use during the game earlier. So the intensive translation […]

EOTE: Dirge of the Nepotist Captain

Modesty Blazing 08 Dirge of the Nepotist Captain *** Previously (and 14 real time months ago) on Star Wars Modesty Blazing… Thanks to the course I was sent on  gave me the opportunity to continue Modesty Blazing, the Edge of the Empire campaign I run for GOKL. I honestly never thought I’d be able to continue the story that had begun more than a year ago when I still lived in Kuala Lumpur. After a quick social media notification, the group agreed to meet at Wira Games and Hobbies. The Rancor’s Rancor Ghyel had been annexed by Captain Bullpup Barqueslayer of the Imperator-class Star Destroyer Cockchafer! The stolen Lambda-class shuttle carrying Zalo Hai the lost Prince of Ghyel and his de facto aides and protectors temporarily attached to the Ghyel Ministry of History and Archaeology, Trianii Qillian Ryn, Zeltron Darter Kel, Trandoshan John Tray’Essek and droid VAX-11/750 reverted from hyperspace […]

Set Course For The City

And so it was that the workplace booked me on a two week course. The course was to be held back in Kuala Lumpur. You know the city: Irfan’s kampung. We drove southbound and spent the night in Sitiawan before continuing on to Kuala Lumpur after a breakfast with Irfan’s Atok and Opah. We stopped at Sekinchan at a restaurant where lunch was to be had on what appeared to be a kotatsu. A novel thing, and it helped that the food was delicious. We arrived in the city and headed for Cikma’s place where we rendezvoused with every sibling of Ain (and their family) where Irfan was reunited with his cousin Aiman once more. Then after, we headed for the building where the course was held way across town from Cikma’s place. Ain had discovered that the place had accommodations for course attendees and they were affordable. Because of […]

My 10 Best Drawlloweens

I discovered an activity called Drawlloween that someone made up to draw things daily in October in conjunction with Halloween. There is a list of topics, which you can see at my Google Photo album. Naturally, instead of spooky stuff I turned it into an absolute nerdfest. Eyeball is of course the pilot slang for an Imperial TIE fighter, just like squints are TIE interceptors, dupes TIE bombers and bright TIE Advanced. It’s actually Herman Munster reading Promethean The Created rule book. Elsewhere in the album (But not in this blog post) are Michael Morbius reading Vampire The Masquerade and Jacob Russell readying Werewolf The Forsaken. It’s not a nerdfest without at least one obscure G.I. Joe reference… … nor without Matt Trakker and Miles Mayhem. Barfolomew: “It’s not that we’re afraid, far from it, it’s just that we’ve got this thing about death… It’s not us.” How many XPs […]

Captain Ithano

Captain Ithano

My second Star Wars The Force Awakens fan art is Captain Ithano a.k.a. the Crimson Corsair. He holds in his arm a guidebook for becoming a pirate or a privateer. (A letter of marque is required for the latter choice.) Here’s a close up of the book he’s carrying which I painted from scratch using a photo of the actual book cover.

Zuvio

Constable Zuvio

Constable Zuvio from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, my first ever fan art for the movie which is due in forty days. I am slacking. Not really, it’s a long story. First, it was sketched and painted with Krita, then finished up with GIMP. Zuvio looks like a Kyuzo does he not?

Call of Cthulhu: Happy Endings

Episode 5 Happy Endings Last time on Call of Cthulhu (back in June) our solo protagonist, the young Detective DJ Stark failed to stop whatever unholy occult occurrence at Horton Opera House. Stabbed by cultists, blind luck caused a passer-by to notice him and call for an ambulance. The incident cost Stark another two weeks in the hospital, but he insisted on returning to duty quickly. Mr. Chao had all but disappeared, and there was no sign of the cultists in the opera house. There was no clue as to what the swirling bright light that he saw before he fell down the trapdoor. At the end of his shift he was approached by his new partner Detective Alex Sim, a young Asian woman who knew of Stark’s proclivities with investigating strange and unexplained things and getting into severe injuries. She warned him that she did not wish for her […]
