Where Irfan and I had lunch sometimes after school

Where We Used To Eat

Ain did not venture into Pandan Indah the last time we were here. So, this time, we thought we would take a look. Specifically, we drove by the restaurants we used to frequent when we lived here. The entire suburb was busier than ever. But as you can see some of old regular restaurants are still there. Except for Restoran Lima Bintang. RIP Lima Bintang.

The Dental Extrication Undertaking

Last week, Ain had a tooth extraction. This week is was my turn. Once upon a time, I experienced a hard time having a tooth removed. In the last couple of weeks, my right molars was acting up. By acting up, I mean giving me an agonising jolt every time I chewed on food. So on Friday Ain and I went to the public clinic and hoped that the extraction would not be that much of a hassle. Little did I know that the tooth had split in two along the centreline. It made it difficult for the dentist to pull it out. Not to mention, despite four times injected with novocaine or lidocaine or something, my tooth still felt like it was being stabbed by a white-hot needle. Like the previous tale told in the link provided above, the dentist required that I come back another day because of […]

Asians Represent!

Interview at Asians Represent!

Late last month, I did an interview with Agatha Cheng and Daniel Kwan. It was for their podcast, Asians Represent!  over at One Shot Podcast. The episode was released a couple of weeks ago. In the show, I talk about the benefits of using tabletop RPGs to teach students English here in Malaysia. Also, how RPGs can be indirectly used to inspire learning of history and culture. I also talk a bit about my artwork and Patreon. I finally listened to the whole episode during work commute a few days ago. If you thought I sounded sick on the show, it is because I was. I was suffering a bad sinus infection during the recording, but at the time I did not think anything of it. Listeners have been kind, telling me I was good in it. But, wow, I could definitely hear myself being woozy and not very coherent […]

The sky's on fire

Campus Sunset

One of the most rewarding things about having to teach from 5 to 7 in the evening is the view. Sometimes the sky just lights up on fire. Yesterday, the following view was what I beheld when I was heading home. I tweeted the photo immediately. No brightness or saturation modification was done on the image.

Rat Disposal Weekend

One other thing that occurred over the weekend was the success of our household in apprehending a rat. We heard it scritch-scratching once in a while in the attic and Ain set up a trap as usual. Saturday evening we took it out to a deserted spot by a main road and let it loose into the wild. On our way back to the house, the sky displayed quite a spectacular wash of bright, lively colours. (Click on both images above to expand them.)

A Registered Student Once More

I never thought it possible even three years ago, but now I am registered as a postgraduate student at my workplace! (It helps that I work at a university, obviously.) I would like to thank my family and friends who supported and encouraged me one way or another. I would have never reached this point if it were not for them. More news to come, I would wager…

The View To Work Today

Today on the way to work, I pulled over and took a picture of the rice fields beside the road because it looked spectacular. Unfortunately I could not linger as long as I would like to as I had a meeting to attend in half an hour. One meeting and one class later, I headed the opposite direction to attend another class. Again, I decided to take a picture of another rice field along the road. The rice plants had yet to fill up the landscape with green and instead became a beautiful mirror of the sky. That is all.

Gaming at the Geomatics Carnival 2018

Today, the Centre for International Languages was officially invited by Zainee to UiTM Arau nearby for their Geomatics Carnival 2018 exhibition. There was a hobbies exhibition section where I set up shop with tabletop RPGs with my colleague Bazli. I would talk to visitors about using RPGs as a language learning tool. Also, to run games if and when I can. Sharnizan of Serious Games UUM was also present to introduce and sell his product the Ace of Maths game to UiTM students. Though at this point he was explaining the card game to Bazli. There was no dearth of visitors to our tables when the exhibition started. The exhibition organisers even provided Bazli and I with a packed lunch. My usual suspects line up was arrayed for display at their table, eliciting enquiries once in a while. I ran two game sessions for visitors. I ran the Edge of […]

Multicultural Night

With Ain away at Pasir Mas to take care of some things there, it was just Irfan and I at home for the weekend. After spending most of the weekend binging on The Terror, an excellent show by the way, we would have nothing else to do until the weekday rebooted itself. Thankfully, I had bought a couple of tickets for the Multicultural Night 2018 at the university great hall. After dark, we both drove there not just to check out the event, but also to hunt for dinner. What awaited us there was something that blew me away. Here are some Twitter posts, videos included. It’s the university’s Multicultural Night 2018. pic.twitter.com/zpzSGIsByq — Khairul Hisham (@hishgraphics) April 29, 2018 Who choreographed these students? A Bowling Sunday With Colleagues

Earlier today, the language centre welfare club organised a tenpin bowling session for the centre’s personnel for some rest and relaxation as a group. It was quite the fun experience. And the last time I bowled was… holy crap! 8 years ago?! I did discover that my joints are in need of lubricants.

Sinanju Assembled!

Irfan had presented me with a Super Deformed Sinanju (MSN-06S) gunpla for me birthday a couple of weeks earlier, and I did not have the time to sit down to assemble it… until tonight. Both Irfan and I worked on it until it was complete. In the above pic, you can see it back-to-back with the SD RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee. I discovered that it is quite the robust figure and decided that will adorn my table at work in the future as the Second Coming of Char.
