Bumblebee

Walking, Talking and Punching Bots

As of last night, the new Transformers trailer went online. This is not the fleeting 2 microsecond glimpse of a silhouette smashing the Mars Rover teaser bit which I caught in the theatre just before Garfield: Tale of Two Kitties. (Yeah, I watched Garfield. Shut up in the back there.) This one shows a whole bunch of Cybertronian aliens, in various modes and transforming. There’s even a shot of the protoform stasis pod crashing down. I am happily surprised that there are no loud rock and / or rap music in the trailer to mark the movie as “cool” to the teens. It’s just a bunch of quick cuts of… well, lots of bits that made me and Irfan very happy as we went to bed last night. It’s not an adaptation of any of the Transformers sub-universes. I’m not even going to go “But Megatron was a gun!” or […]

sudo apt-get install linux joke

Before the Deepavali-Aidilfitri vacation I had zero experience working with a Linux machine. Some time fiddling about with Ubuntu in Pasir Mas changed that. (Not by much, but some.) I wouldn’t have understood this joke before three weeks ago, so don’t feel bad if you don’t get it. When I saw this one on RPG.net it really cracked me up. I have no clue who made this or where it originated, though. Updated: The webcomic is xkcd.

Satellite Photos of the Tenth Floor

Once upon a time I checked what the Google Maps‘ satellite photos had of Kuala Lumpur. They weren’t pretty impressive at low resolution. Today I checked them again and I found that this is no longer the case. It’s possible to even see individual cars on the highway. Click on the thumbnail below for a picture of our apartment building and its surrounding environment. [[popup:satmap01.jpg:(thumbnail):Pandan Indah and such:center:1]] Take a look below for a close up of our building, which is the one on the left. You can even make out the swimming pool on the left side of the building. [[image:satmap02.jpg:I’m mooning the satellite, can you tell?:center:0]]

Bumblebee Is Watching You Poop

I’ve refrained from posting any leaked Transformers live action movie bot photos… until today when I saw this image of Bumblebee from this site (who will almost certainly be a Chevrolet Camaro, instead of a classic VW Beetle) evidently, with great intent on watching you poop.

Optimus Prime is Optimus Prime Once Again

So here’s what Moriarty from Ain’t It Cool News has to report from ComicCon: ComicCon News!! TRANSFORMERS Announcement! The Voice Of Optimus Prime Is… [[image:prime.jpg:”MEGATRONNNNN!!!!”:center:0]] … Peter Cullen. Yep. You can all relax. Paramount made it official a few moments ago during their presentation panel, and by all accounts, there was much rejoicing. The original voice of Optimus Prime will voice the live action version! It’s great to know Paramount or Michael Bay didn’t opt for another voice actor, or worse, a celebrity voice just to pull in the crowd. Mr. Cullen was also the voices of K.A.R.R. of Knight Rider, the Predator, and the Mogwais and the Gremlins. If I had those in my resume, I’d be real proud of it.

Travel Trivia

So I was reading Lilian’s iFantabulous site, and she posted a little map that was generated based on the countries you’ve visited. Of course, I had to try it too. Unfortunately, I have only been to 8 countries! Yikes! Here’s what my map looks like: Create your own visited country map or check our Venice travel guide Then I wanted to see how many states I’ve been to in the US – I’ve been to 27 states (more than half, woohoo!). Create your own personalized map of the USA or check out our California travel guide You can definitely tell I do NOT like cold weather – most of the northern states are not yet visited 😀 and yet I’ve been to Hawaii. And in all my years of living in Boston, I never did make it to Vermont, for whatever reason. Even though one of the things on my […]

Newspaper Snippet Generator

Here’s a great tool I discovered by way of Midnight Flights (Note: Link no longer exists): A Newspaper Snippet Generator. Just fill in the fields with some words and letters. Stretch your brain a bit to come up with some interesting text. And voilà: You could either play with this for hours coming up with weird newspaper stories for no particular reason, or for role playing gamers who play in contemporary or near-contemporary settings (d20 Modern / various GURPS / Call of Cthulhu / World of Darkness, among others)… you now have a tool to create awesome, authentic-looking images of newspapers as visual game aid.

Fleep

Fleep by Jason Shiga is not a webcomic. It’s a story published not to its conclusion by AsianWeek but now collected in its entirety at Jason Shiga’s website. It’s a story of one man’s adventure upon waking up entombed in a telephone booth. The tale starts out looking as if it’s fantastical and Twilight-Zone-esque, but like the best of stories there’s more to it than meets the eye, and by the end all plot points are resolved and takes you by surprise. [[image:fleep.gif:Fleep:center:0]]Jason Shiga won a Eisner for Talent Deserving of Wider Recognition for Fleep in 2003. And a fun fact for Malaysians is that one of Jason’s major influence as a cartoonist is Lat according to his interview at AsianWeek. So, check out the entire Fleep story at Jason’s site. You’ll find out why comics, when written right, is a storytelling media worthy of being called literature. Thanks to […]

Aragorn of Pals For Life Guild

It’s unknown to me who made this image, but every time I look at it I have to at least stifle a laugh… because the way Aragorn rushes into combat almost without warning is nearly similar to how that fateful battle began at Blackrock Spire. Unfortunately not everyone will get the joke. Just you MMORPG jocks. Meanwhile, everyone else please read this Wikipedia page for a history of the internet meme.

What D&D Character Are You?

Check out what Dungeons and Dragons character you are. Are you a… Fighter? Monk? Rogue? Wizard? Ranger? Good? Neutral? Evil? Lawful? Chaotic? Human? Dwarf? Elf? Halfling? Click on this link (dead link) to find out, then read on here to find out what Hisham is in D&D. Hisham is apparently a…. Chaotic Good Elf Bard Alignment: Chaotic Good characters are independent types with a strong belief in the value of goodness. They have little use for governments and other forces of order, and will generally do their own things, without heed to such groups. Race: Elves are the eldest of all races, although they are generally a bit smaller than humans. They are generally well-cultured, artistic, easy-going, and because of their long lives, unconcerned with day-to-day activities that other races frequently concern themselves with. Elves are, effectively, immortal, although they can be killed. After a thousand years or so, they […]

Family Circus Meets Cthulhu

Via Boing Boing, I’ve discovered a bunch of Family Circus comics at the Accordion Guy‘s blog that has H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos captions placed on it. These are very humourous if you’ve read Lovecraft and put them into context with the Family Circus. But there was one hilarious Family Circus comic posted anonymously in the comments section that really made me chuckle out loud. (See below.) Roy’s Finest Hour

[[image:ootsbanner_88x31_portrait.gif:Order Of The Stick:left:0]] The 250th installment of the Order Of The Stick does not disappoint. I didn’t see the two punchlines in the story coming at all and the impact was outstanding… Well at least for me. Check it out here. Meanwhile in Singapore, according to Reuters via Yahoo! News, “Singapore scientists looking for ways to transmit the sense of touch over the Internet have devised a vibration jacket for chickens and are thinking about electronic children’s pyjamas for cyberspace hugs.” Vibration jackets for chickens? What what in the what, now?

DO NOT WANT!

As reported earlier, screen captures of an atrociously subtitled Revenge of the Sith bootleg was posted at winterson.com. It appears that the image of Vader screaming “Nooooooo!” in despair over the news of Padmé’s death, which was subtitled “Do not want” (see image below), has taken a life of its own as an internet meme. [[image:donotwant1.jpg:Do Not Want!!!!!:center:0]] For example, if you’re in certain forums or blog comment on the net and you are told of a news that, to use a common vernacular, sucks, you could say “DO NOT WANT!!!!” and they’ll understand you as easily as you would say something like “All your base are belongs to us” or “O RLY?!?”. In light of that, here are some other Do Not Wants that you can use in conversations in the internet. As you can see, the phrase “Like father like son” comes into play a lot here. [[image:donotwant2.jpg:ANH […]
