Art of Wuxia NPCs

Early this year, DwD Studios invited me to produce interior artwork for their new RPG rulebook Art of Wuxia. Unfortunately, I was unable to oblige their request because of work commitments. I did try, but I just could not produce artwork during that stretch of time. So, they had to commission another artist to do the bulk of their artwork. Last month, they offered a smaller number of art to be made for the book; three non-player characters (NPCs). It should not have taken me two weeks to complete all three, but it did. This work-from-home, quarantine situation is taking a lot more out of me than I thought was possible. Click on the pictures above to view larger images. BBF: The Day The World Burned

The second RPG session I ran during the Geomatics Carnival 2018 at UiTM Arau was DwD Studios’ BareBones Fantasy. This session had even less prep time than the Star Wars session I ran earlier in the day. However, it turned out to be one of the most hilarious sessions I have ever had he pleasure of gamemastering in recent years. BareBones Fantasy The Day the World Burned The day began like another day for the two adventurers the elven thief Mus and human warrior Kazuma (both at Rank 1) and their hireling Aqua, an archer, who were travelling through the wilderness on horses. Upon Kazuma’s shoulder was his faithful hawk. The Blood in the Standing Stones The light woodlands ended and a wall of dark twisted trees and dense thickets blocked their path. They were considering what to do when they heard a scream from beyond the wall growing before […]

Cover Art: Dark Side of Loridian

I recently made the cover art for DwD Studios’ upcoming adventure module for their science fiction roleplaying game FrontierSpace entitled Dark Side of Loridian. It looks a little bit like this: I am also tasked with drawing several interior artwork which I will post here after the product has been released.

BFF: The Free Wizards of the Clave

The last day of Ramadhan, Irfan taught cousin Aiman to play RPG, specifically BareBones Fantasy (BBF). With the Eid Tabletop RPG Travel Pack I brought, I gamemastered an impromptu session for the cousins in the morning. Irfan tweaked his old player character (PC) Jake Hastur to be the Halfling wizard Drego Andre. Aiman adapted a pre-generated character from the BBF rule book to be an Elven wizard who called himself Johnson Jones. Session 01: The Cave in the Clave The Crossing The two free Wizards Drego and Johnson were travelling the thick woods on foot in the Emondran Clave of the Keranak Kingdoms. (Presumably Johnson is an Emon Elf.) It was getting dark but there was no place for them to hole up and camp. There were large trees and thick brush everywhere. They came across a river which flowed dangerously fast. If you fell in the water, you would […]

FrontierSpace Chapter Pages

Besides robots, I have also submitted some chapter pages to DwD Studios for FrontierSpace. I feel bad for the slow output though. The semester is almost over, so things might go faster after. The role-playing game is currently being playtested. Watch this space for the release of FrontierSpace from DwD Studios !

A bunch of awesome digest-sized books!

A Package from DwD Studios

Copies of roleplaying game books arrived today from DwD Studios, sent by Bill Logan! As has been documented on the blog before, I’ve played BareBones Fantasy with Irfan the first time here, then during International TableTop Day here and finally here when he experienced his first player character (PC) death. The boy also gamemastered (GM) his first ever RPG with BareBones Fantasy last year! I’m hoping he’ll hone his GMing skills some more with the easy to play BareBones d00% lite system, and eventually play some contemporary spies in Covert Ops.This will help him develop his oratory, problem solving and critical thinking skills. Thanks, Bill! I will do just that!

BareBones Fantasy: The First GM Session

Earlier this week, Irfan gamemastered his first RPG session with his friend at his friend’s house. He had took my printed out copy of BareBones Fantasy, created his own pregenerated characters (asking me a few questions along the way), drew a simple terrain map and filled it with opponents. His friend Fikree, I was told, named his pregenned human spellcaster William Jester. Irfan’s own GMPC is a dwarf named Hector Zorin, a warrior with a greataxe, a battleaxe, and a warhammer. The Simple Scenario Because I was not present to witness the game being played, I interviewed Irfan for details of what went down in the session. William and Hector were scouting the woods near the town where they lived because travellers had been disappearing there. Near a rocky hill surrounded by thick trees they spotted a cave entrance that was guarded by a lizardman. They decided to attack. (Initiative […]

BareBones Fantasy: Over The Hills and Far Away

Some time ago, I ran BareBones Fantasy RPG for Irfan. The campaign is set in the default setting: the Keranak Kingdoms! Late afternoon yesterday, we continued the game with him playing the halfling spellcaster-warrior Jake Hastur and I running the human scholar-scout Finn Riverwyld. We stopped by sundown and resumed the game this morning. Last time, Jake and Finn were commissioned by Duchess Lyla Keranak of Kingsbridge to look for her missing brother Captain Kane Keranak, or at the very least return his signet ring back to her. The duo travelled to the Island of Netharak where he was last seen. After having rested in Mr. Bonewall‘s house at the fishing port of Dronak, Jake and Finn geared up and set out northwest to where Kane was last seen headed. Day One The duo headed into the thick jungle. By noon, Jake had almost wandered into a river with foul […]

BareBones Covert Ops Map

Here’s a thumbnail of a map I drew for DwD Studios‘ BareBones Covert Ops RPG. Ultimately S.E.C.T.O.R. base locations will populate this chart. What is S.E.C.T.O.R., you ask? I have no idea yet. Look for the upcoming book which should be released later this year.

BareBones Fantasy: The TableTop Day Session

For International TableTop Day, I thought I’d run another a continuation of BareBones Fantasy RPG campaign for Irfan. Thus, Irfan’s Jake Hastur the halfling wizard and my GM-run NPC Finn Riverwyld the warrior-scholar go once more unto the breach in the city of Kingsbridge in the Keranak Kingdoms. The game began at approximately 1000 hours local time on Saturday morning (+8 hours UTC) and we stopped for lunch at 1200 hours. We thought we could continue later at night, maybe after dinner, but it was not meant to be. We will continue tomorrow. Session One: Journey to Netharak Island BareBones Fantasy uses the d00 percentile system, with percentile Ability and Skill rolls, while damages are sum of d10 rolls. Before we began, Finn bought a new longsword. Jake desired a spear, so Finn gave him his own which he had not enough Warrior (melee) skill to wield properly. Irfan spent […]

Things To Do In BareBones Covert Ops

Here are more interior artwork for DwD Studios‘s upcoming BareBones Covert Ops RPG. Covert Ops allow players to be part of a crack covert team of agents – military or civilians – and do a bunch of spy stuff. For research, I saw some 007 movies, Mission: Impossible movies, Person of Interest (for the civilian black ops angle) and Archer (“Well there’s false flags, dead drops, drop outs, cut outs, active doubles, passive doubles, dangled moles. The often under appreciated honeypot. One of my favorites.”) It also helped that I am in the midst of playing a Night’s Black Agents campaign. Later, I also realised that Fast Five is a great heist movie that shows player characters as primarily wheel artists. This batch of art shows activities you can do in the game, such as baking a cake, having a stroll, mowing the lawn, getting a mortgage for your secret […]

BareBones Covert Ops Archetypes

The hardworking guys over at DwD Studios are developing their own espionage, counter-intelligence and paramilitary game using its BareBones role-playing system. Here are the artwork for archetypes that can be used either as PCs or NPCs right out of the box. Each and any of these characters can be found in tactical situations requiring them to use their wits as well as their gear to survive and complete their missions.
