Cartol’s Emporium

Jegergryte did not wish to disturb me after I created artwork for his Edge of the Empire group, so he requested an artwork on SWAG. After a month or so without being picked up – and I had some free time to spare – I yoinked it The drawing of the modified Kuat Drive Yards EF-76 Nebulon-B escort frigate would be used for the cover of his Edge of the Empire homebrewed supplement entitled Cartol’s Emporium. To make the Emporium seem busy with business, I also included other ships in the artwork. Ships from campaigns I ran or played in! Clockwise from lower left: Nova Coyote – a Corellian YT-1760 from WOTC’s Star Wars Gamer from Team Sabredart the SWAG Clone Wars D6 campaign. Jegergryte’s Crew

Some months back, I drew some player characters for Jegergryte‘s Edge of the Empire RPG player characters. I pushed my digital painting abilities, exercising my skills so they would be closer to what they should be if I am to land better freelance art jobs. Jace Maverick is a swashbuckler with a vibrorapier and a charming smile. I thought I’d give him a costume design resembling the Naboo Security Force’s. Thracken “The Kraken” Artox is a grimy Rodian gadgeteer with a cyborg eye and a MerrSonn Type-434 “DeathHammer” heavy blaster pistol which obviously has been through a lot. Doc Ariela Mengalic a.k.a. Ghia Necil Zilar is a Colonist / Doctor. She has a Tenloss DXR-6 disruptor rifle, a medpac on her hip and a bandoleer of ready-to-use stimpacks. Walian “Blue” Mothma is a human Force sensitive assassin who wields a BlasTech A280 blaster rifle, with a underslung grenade launcher.   […]

EOTE: Aggressive Negotiations

Edged by the Empire Episode 03 Aggressive Negotiations The Star Wars RPG adventure continues from the previous session with Act 2 of The Long Arm of the Hutt free downloadable adventure (PDF download, low res version, 2.4MB). The original title of this chapter is Geonosian Negotiations. On the run from Teemo the Hutt, the smuggler Hondo Pash found himself with new Twi’lek allies on Ryloth after helping to overthrow a bullying mining boss at the town of New Meen. The Twi’leks of Nabat, including the commander Nyn Kablo and the fighter Numa, helped Hondo to repair the YT-1300 light freighter that he had liberated from the Trandoshan slaver Trex. The ship had now been renamed Lava Jaeger. Farewell to Ryloth The return trip from New Meen to Nabat was uneventful. The Twi’lek miner B’ura B’an had decided to stay behind at New Meen to help with the clean up. Upon […]

Paper Minis: Imperial Officers

Imperial Security Bureau Major Mar Barezz turned up in a Star Wars RPG session earlier this year, 25 years after he first appeared in Rebel Breakout, which I ran back in ’89. He appeared in meatspace as a paper miniature as can be seen above. Here are a bunch of Imperial officers paper miniatures I made for your Star Wars RPG. There are 12 of them in this file. 4 Fleet officers, 4 Stormtrooper officers, 2 Imperial Security Bureau officers and 2 Imperial Ubiqtorate officers. Click here to download the PDF file on Google Drive.

Paper Minis: Mos Eisley Aliens

This batch of Star Wars RPG paper minis are aliens (designed by either Stuart Freeborn’s or Rick Baker’s team) for the Mos Eisley Cantina sequence in the first Star Wars movie. These guys were actually at the sound stage as masks. Here are 10 of the unique aliens to be used as spacers, fringers, bureaucrats, mooks or even innocent bystanders. This batch includes the Advozse, Brizzit, Givin, Gotal, Morseerian, Nimbanel, Sakiyan, Siniteen, Snivvian and Yam’rii. And yeah, alien species like Brizzit and Yam’rii are rarely found in other Star Wars literature. We need game and character generation stats for these babies. Mong the species that did not make the cut on this file were Lutrillian, H’nemthe and Vuvrian. The spaceport control office has two astromech droids to aid them in their close orbit and airspace operations. Enjoy! Click here to view and download it from Google Drive!

Paper Minis: B1 Battle Droids

B1 battle droids make great mooks for the Star Wars RPG. They are ubiquitous during the Clone Wars era, and gamemasters can have them laying about all over the galaxy during the Dark Times and Rebellion eras. Some crime lord might be using them to guard his cache of treasure, or the player characters might stumble across a crashed Trade Federation ship with a whole battalion of them a jostle away from reactivation. One wayward droid might have been overlooked and is now a notorious gunslinger at the edge of the Outer Rim Territories, or in the Kathol Outback. These photos display my old B1 paper minis. The PDF linked at the end of this article is a totally new and better file with new line art and colour schemes for the droids. Below is the PDF file with 12 B1 droids, which includes 1 commander with yellow markings, 5 […]

EOTE: Rugged Road to the Ryll Mines Part 2

Edged by the Empire Episode 02 Rugged Road to the Ryll Mines, Part 2 The adventure continues from the previous entry: I ran the second session for Act 1 of The Long Arm of the Hutt free downloadable adventure (PDF download, low res version, 2.4MB) on Tuesday morning. Barreling Through the Badlands The mission began in the morning. B’ura and Hondo were joined by a Rutian Twi’lek female named Numa. She was in her early twenties and bore a blaster pistol and a vibroknife. Kablo brought them to the east end of Nabat where a tech crew was rolling out an old landspeeder from storage. They were to head east through the badlands for about 300 klicks. At first piloting a speeder over the badlands was a cinch. Then rocky mounds appeared, and forced Hondo to steer carefully past the dangerous rocks. However (with a Piloting – Planetary roll that […]

EOTE: Rugged Road to the Ryll Mines Part 1

Edged by the Empire Episode 02 Rugged Road to the Ryll Mines, Part 1 Last Monday, Irfan and I finally continued his Star Wars Edge of the Empire RPG adventures. I ran The Long Arm of the Hutt free downloadable adventure (PDF download, low res version, 2.4MB) from Fantasy Flight Games’ website with some alterations to the story and non-player characters. With the new EotE Core Rulebook, Irfan earlier created his own player character based on the Beginner Game pregenerated character Pash. His new PC in named Hondo Pash, a smuggler with a pilot specialisation, and purchased the Talents Let’s Ride, Galaxy Mapper and Skilled Jockey. He wields a DH-17 blaster pistol and a vibrosword. His story continues from Pash’s story from Escape from Mos Shuuta from the Edge of the Empire Beginner Game. His Obligation was to the safety of his younger sister Yuzy Pash who lived on Tatooine. Pui-ui Explorer

Pui-ui

The Pui-ui was a sapient species created by Brian Daley for his 1980 novel Han Solo and the Lost Legacy. (I love the book. I’ve even ran games that took different gaming groups to Dellalt a few times.) I searched the internet for pictures of them but none was to be found. So I thought I’d paint some simple sketches of the alien. According to the Wookieepedia article there were two versions descibed in two different versions of A Guide to the Star Wars Universe. There were suggestions on Twitter for me to draw both versions. So here they are, each with character ideas for RPGs. For a larger view at DeviantArt, click here. Miridon

Miridon – with Stats!

I owe this blog a Miridon stats entry. Miridon is a sea monster that appeared in the Droids animated series. Miridon This big aquatic carnivorous reptile was seen swimming in the oceans of Tarnoonga used by pirates to dispose of unwanted guests, and also trying to eat said pirates who were not really smart to begin with. It spends its time in rocky caverns and crevices underwater Some miridon might have been transported to other planets in the galaxy. Some might have been released into the wild where a community of them might thrive. Some PCs might be crazy enough to try petting them while scuba diving. The stats below allow for an adult creature to leap out of the sea and bite on passing light starfighters or light freighters. Star Wars D6 Miridon, carnivorous marine reptile Scale: Starfighter Length: 25 meters. DEXTERITY 3D Bite 3D+2 Swimming 5D+1 Tentacle grab […]

Edge of the Empire Core Rulebook

Upon arriving home from Pasir Mas after an overnight drive via Jeli, Gerik and Kuala Kangsar, I discovered this note from the post office right outside the door of the house. So Irfan and I went to pick it up. It was a box and I was ecstatic at the size, shape and weight of it. Even if I was cautious about it. With my luck, it could have easily been some court summons because I’d accidentally strangled some duck to death 15 years ago or some weird thing like that. But I was happy to discover that it was indeed the Star Wars Edge of the Empire, all 2000 tonnes and 70,000 pages of it, sent by Jeremy and Brett from New Hampshire as a tradeoff for the steampunk Westward RPG artwork I did for them. Here is the Core Rulebook arrayed with the two Beginner Game booklet and […]

Blixus

Blixus – With Stats!

Among the many entertaining obstacles you could use as challenges for players of the Star Wars RPG are creatures. Defeating a critter is a natural Star Wars storytelling element, as can be seen in the movies. A host of new and original creatures had been created in the Star Wars The Clone Wars animated series, such as mastiff phalones, skalders, rupings and gutkurrs. Most have not had official roleplaying stats to them for gamemasters to use. However, here are my home-made stats of the blixus, a cephalopod with huge, flailing tentacles, a crab-like shell and and a ravenous maw as it appeared in the fourth season episode “Kidnapped”. A fun fact: the blixus first appeared in the Dark Horse Comics’ Star Wars The Clone Wars #2 “Slave Traders of Zygerria” written by Henry Gilroy. This story arc was adapted into the three-episode Zygerrian slavers arc of which “Kidnapped” was the […]

Star Wars Living Card Game and Not Dying

Another gift from the GOKL gang, I finally started playing with Irfan the Star Wars: The Card Game from Fantasy Flight Games. Designed for two players, but with a future expansion rule that would allow for more than two players, I spent the last couple of days duelling cards with Irfan. He has won once and I twice. It was enjoyable. I’m certain we got some details of the rules wrong because we played and read the rules on the fly – and I never really played any card games before this. We kept discovering new things that we missed when we played earlier. In any case, you can view the video tutorial by FFG here. I was worried that the rules would only let you play numbers against numbers, but had no narrative quality to it. Sure you can’t really form a solid story out of your gameplay, but […]

Paper Minis: Edge of the Empire Beginner Game

So, since Star Wars Edge of the Empire role playing game core rulebook will be delayed another couple of months, many early adopters of the game will still be using the Beta rulebook and the Beginner Game boxed set to run their adventures. As previously stated, the boxed set has four pregenerated character folios and two free for download character folios from the Fantasy Flight Games website. Download the paper miniature characters for the four from the Beginner Game (41-VEX, Lowhhrick, Oskara and Pash) and the two from the website (Mathus and Sasha) at the link below. Click on the thumbnail of Mathus the technician and Oskara the bounty hunter on the right to view the full pdf sheet. You can use them If you’re running the Beginner Game and/or using the downloadable folios for any adventure and/or just looking for general Star Wars paper minis for your own use […]

SWAG: Squeak, Claire and Dutch

I love it when children play RPGs. Their young imagination make any game soar. If there’s any way to help introverted children to help express themselves more and be better speakers, I would always recommend parents to run tabletop RPGs for them. This was why I immediately took this request on the Star Wars Artists’ Guild, which was requested by Juanflaco. He gamemastered a Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG game for his children, ages 12, 9 and 7. The 12-year-old plays Claire, the young teenager on the run from Tatooine. The 7-year-old plays R2-79 a.k.a. “Squeak”, Claire’s astromech droid. The 9-year-old plays Dutch an amnesiac former Clone pilot who has to protect the two. Click here for the forum request. Click here for the SWAG art post. Click here for a larger image at DeviantArt.
