Travel Trivia

So I was reading Lilian’s iFantabulous site, and she posted a little map that was generated based on the countries you’ve visited. Of course, I had to try it too. Unfortunately, I have only been to 8 countries! Yikes! Here’s what my map looks like: Create your own visited country map or check our Venice travel guide Then I wanted to see how many states I’ve been to in the US – I’ve been to 27 states (more than half, woohoo!). Create your own personalized map of the USA or check out our California travel guide You can definitely tell I do NOT like cold weather – most of the northern states are not yet visited 😀 and yet I’ve been to Hawaii. And in all my years of living in Boston, I never did make it to Vermont, for whatever reason. Even though one of the things on my […]

HaXX0rzed!!!

This is the first entry after the site was hacked and evil and vile javascript and php codes were written into the blog’s templates and database files. Many thanks to Fairiz Jafar of EasyNet Interactive, our webhoster, for noticing and monitoring the trouble almost a full day before I contacted him for help. His help on a Sunday was very much appreciated, getting the site back up. Two of the most recent entries were lost, but it’s no big deal. The Hishgraphics web journal is back online. Click here to read a description of what happened in the Pivot Support Forums. It was a long weekend, needless to say. But I said it anyway. *sigh*

Newspaper Snippet Generator

Here’s a great tool I discovered by way of Midnight Flights (Note: Link no longer exists): A Newspaper Snippet Generator. Just fill in the fields with some words and letters. Stretch your brain a bit to come up with some interesting text. And voilà: You could either play with this for hours coming up with weird newspaper stories for no particular reason, or for role playing gamers who play in contemporary or near-contemporary settings (d20 Modern / various GURPS / Call of Cthulhu / World of Darkness, among others)… you now have a tool to create awesome, authentic-looking images of newspapers as visual game aid.

Fleep

Fleep by Jason Shiga is not a webcomic. It’s a story published not to its conclusion by AsianWeek but now collected in its entirety at Jason Shiga’s website. It’s a story of one man’s adventure upon waking up entombed in a telephone booth. The tale starts out looking as if it’s fantastical and Twilight-Zone-esque, but like the best of stories there’s more to it than meets the eye, and by the end all plot points are resolved and takes you by surprise. [[image:fleep.gif:Fleep:center:0]]Jason Shiga won a Eisner for Talent Deserving of Wider Recognition for Fleep in 2003. And a fun fact for Malaysians is that one of Jason’s major influence as a cartoonist is Lat according to his interview at AsianWeek. So, check out the entire Fleep story at Jason’s site. You’ll find out why comics, when written right, is a storytelling media worthy of being called literature. Thanks to […]

Aragorn of Pals For Life Guild

It’s unknown to me who made this image, but every time I look at it I have to at least stifle a laugh… because the way Aragorn rushes into combat almost without warning is nearly similar to how that fateful battle began at Blackrock Spire. Unfortunately not everyone will get the joke. Just you MMORPG jocks. Meanwhile, everyone else please read this Wikipedia page for a history of the internet meme.

What D&D Character Are You?

Check out what Dungeons and Dragons character you are. Are you a… Fighter? Monk? Rogue? Wizard? Ranger? Good? Neutral? Evil? Lawful? Chaotic? Human? Dwarf? Elf? Halfling? Click on this link (dead link) to find out, then read on here to find out what Hisham is in D&D. Hisham is apparently a…. Chaotic Good Elf Bard Alignment: Chaotic Good characters are independent types with a strong belief in the value of goodness. They have little use for governments and other forces of order, and will generally do their own things, without heed to such groups. Race: Elves are the eldest of all races, although they are generally a bit smaller than humans. They are generally well-cultured, artistic, easy-going, and because of their long lives, unconcerned with day-to-day activities that other races frequently concern themselves with. Elves are, effectively, immortal, although they can be killed. After a thousand years or so, they […]

South Park Portrait

Brem posted an entry which reminded me of something I posted in the ACS Sitiawan Forums last March. A Flash South Park portrait generator! Appears to be Version 2.0 now. You can access the page from Brem’s link as the link in the ACS Forums now also points to the new location. Check out more pictures at Brem’s page and in the ACS thread. Here’s me in March: [[image:sphisham.gif:I broke the dam.:center:0]]

Hishgraphics.com Joins A Webring

Not much sales happening at Hishgraphics Publications, so I’m currently trying out by using another internet marketing tool, a webring. More precisely, the eBooks 4 Kids webring. You can check out the link at the bottom of the index page of Hishgraphics.com, although our status with the webring is still pending. I’ll update this post when the ringmaster’s reviewed Hishgraphics and approved us. UPDATE (5 pm, Dec 6): We’ve been approved! Our link is in the Webring hub at the link above. [[image:hishbanner.gif:Hishgraphics.com:center:0]]Earlier today, I finally succeeded registering with eBay to see if I can sell other stuff there while passively marketing Hishgraphics Publications there… unfortunately to register as a Seller I need a credit card. Now I have to look into getting one, for the sole purpose of being an online merchant. Ugh.

Family Circus Meets Cthulhu

Via Boing Boing, I’ve discovered a bunch of Family Circus comics at the Accordion Guy‘s blog that has H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos captions placed on it. These are very humourous if you’ve read Lovecraft and put them into context with the Family Circus. But there was one hilarious Family Circus comic posted anonymously in the comments section that really made me chuckle out loud. (See below.) [[image:familycthulu4ld.gif:Cthulhu fhtagn:center:0]] If I was drinking, my keyboard and monitor would be wet now. 😀

Roy’s Finest Hour

[[image:ootsbanner_88x31_portrait.gif:Order Of The Stick:left:0]] The 250th installment of the Order Of The Stick does not disappoint. I didn’t see the two punchlines in the story coming at all and the impact was outstanding… Well at least for me. Check it out here. Meanwhile in Singapore, according to Reuters via Yahoo! News, “Singapore scientists looking for ways to transmit the sense of touch over the Internet have devised a vibration jacket for chickens and are thinking about electronic children’s pyjamas for cyberspace hugs.” Vibration jackets for chickens? What what in the what, now?

DO NOT WANT!

As reported earlier, screen captures of an atrociously subtitled Revenge of the Sith bootleg was posted at winterson.com. It appears that the image of Vader screaming “Nooooooo!” in despair over the news of Padmé’s death, which was subtitled “Do not want” (see image below), has taken a life of its own as an internet meme. [[image:donotwant1.jpg:Do Not Want!!!!!:center:0]] For example, if you’re in certain forums or blog comment on the net and you are told of a news that, to use a common vernacular, sucks, you could say “DO NOT WANT!!!!” and they’ll understand you as easily as you would say something like “All your base are belongs to us” or “O RLY?!?”. In light of that, here are some other Do Not Wants that you can use in conversations in the internet. As you can see, the phrase “Like father like son” comes into play a lot here. [[image:donotwant2.jpg:ANH […]

Spectral Visitors And Other Matters

Irfan’s Cik Su F is here until tomorrow, and she’s sleeping in the room next to ours. Some time last night, I was told she woke Emma up, trembling with absolute fear. It seemed that she saw an apparition gliding by where she slept and disappeared out through the iron grilled window. The ghostly figure wore white and its head and face was a mass of long black hair. It might have been night terrors (though I doubt it), it might have been a dream, it might have been a fear-induced hallucination, or it might have been the real deal. But that was the story told to me this morning by Ain. Meanwhile in other news: Battlestar Galactica was renewed for a third season, and there was much rejoicing. (Just get on with “Resurrection Ship” already) It was Alan Moore‘s birthday yesterday. He wrote a bunch of excellent stories. Painting […]

365 Tomorrows

365 Tomorrows is a website that provides one short speculative fiction story a day for a whole year. While obviously the stories cannot match the narrative quality of a novella or a full-length novel, it does have however the ability to feature a new science fiction concept after another daily. The site began posting on August 1st 2005, so you have a lot of stories to read through in the archives and more coming each day until July 31st 2006.

Doomsday Scenarios Galore

Are you feeling too cheerful or happy? Are you feeling that you’ve had enough feeling on top of the world? Are you sick of everyone telling you “The sun is shining! The birds are singing! Everything is smelling of roses!”? Then check out Exit Mundi, the website that catalogues the various ways the world and/or the entire universe may end, from scientific and religious standpoints. It’ll sure to wipe that smile off your face. How do you like to read about the accidental extinction of the human race? For example, what happens if genetically engineered crop (actually created in a lab named Epicyte in San Diego in 2002) designed to be a contraceptive, escapes into the real world and are accidentally planted in farms all over the world? We’ll all be eating food that induces infertility by killing all sperm cells. If you’re interested in space-based threats, what if a […]
