Sitting cat

Dinner by the Bendang

A bendang is a rice field. Ain and I thought we would try out a new restaurant we saw earlier. Its speciality was char kuey tiau. Irfan decided to sit this one out as he wanted to study. Besides the char kuey tiau, we also had the restaurant cat to keep us company. He just sat at our table without asking for anything from us.

Aidilfitri After The Lockdown

During hari raya, we were unable to cross state borders to balik kampung thanks to the COVID-19 quarantine. It was not the first time for us. As the MCO downgraded because of the reduced infection rate, we discovered that we were able to travel back to Sitiawan to meet up with Atok and Opah. We thought it would be good to celebrate Aidilfitri with them, and we could check up on them after the months of relative isolation. The first morning, we took our late family hari raya photos. The sun shone brightly. Later that day, the sun decided to call it quits. Suddenly it rained There was a torrential downpour in town. According to later reports, it submerged parts of the streets downtown. It never rained this hard in recent decades here in Sitiawan, so this must have been a freak rainstorm. Because a construction crew was building a […]

Buster Gundam – Gundanium Builds

Irfan’s first gunpla was a Buster Gundam once upon a time. Sadly, Irfan is unable to find that model except for various limbs and weapons. So, he has bought a new and a more current manufacture of the Buster Gundam. This build is now the second Gundanium Build video released on YouTube. If it is not too much out of the way, please feel free to view, like and subscribe.

Escape on the Krayt Fang

Papermini Video: Escape on the Krayt Fang

I have been experimenting with editing videos to come up with marginally entertaining (at least to myself) short films. This one is a dramatisation of a SpecForce Pathfinder trying to evade Imperials all over the hangar bay. Also, he’s trying to commandeer the Krayt Fang and leave Mos Shuuta. One bad roll and a threat reveals itself in the end! The ship is a YT-1300 light freighter. The Fang’s deck plans was released with the Edge of the Empire Beginner Game.

Easterly Wind Festival 2020

This weekend was the Pesta Angin Timur Perlis (Perlis Easterly Winds Festival) and they have been advertising it everywhere from meatspace to cyberspace. This year, they held it at Kampung Oran which is not too far from home. Although word on the street (and digital streets as well) say that it would be more spectacular at night, we went in the afternoon under the scorching sun to avoid the crowd. We could see the kites in the skies as we approached the site. Thankfully, parking was easy and as we presumed the crowd was light. We already had lunch so we did not purchase any food offered there, except for the… Well, watch the video below.

With Students in Songkhla

For the first time since joining the Centre, the International Soft-skills and Leadership (ISoL) camp programme committee invited me to chaperone students for two nights in Songkhla, Thailand. The camp was a joint programme between UniMAP and Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya. I thought we would go as a family (along with Syamril, the other language teacher on duty) not just to escort these young minds for their event, but also to learn from the trip. Not only did we learn quite a bit and gain new experiences, we also made new friends there. Add this event to things I never thought 5 years ago that I would be doing. We stayed at the Lake Inn Hotel with the students. Some day we would like to visit here again. Here is a short video on our trip there. However, there were more activities that were not captured on video. There […]

Modesty Blaze nose art!

Modesty Blazing Intro Video

While awaiting the next time I travel to Kuala Lumpur and by chance the GOKL group is free to congregate for a roleplaying session of Star Wars Edge of the Empire, I have created an intro video of our campaign Modesty Blazing, also using OpenShot Video Editor. Video making is fun. I should make more videos. The music is edited from “The Occupation of Balmorra” by Lennie Moore, Mark Griskey and Jesse Harlin for The Old Republic game and Kevin Kiner’s The Clone Wars track “Buzz Droids” from the episode “Sabotage”.

Hishgraphics H

Hishgraphics Illustrations Video

I’ve been playing with OpenShot Video editor on this Linux Mint laptop. I downloaded the one in the repository, which was v1.4. Keyframe animation was a joy with it, but I was not able to copy and paste animation properties from one video clip to another. I did a little digging and I discovered that OpenShot 2.0 had been released recently and this version allowed me to copy paste animation properties. After the upgrade, I discovered that I had less control of the animation than I did with 1.4. (For example, I could go to and easily set the values for the start and the end of the horizontal position each clip with 1.4.) In any case, this is the result of my tinkering about with OpenShot. I am certain I will get the hang of it as I keep using the program. How is this for a TV commercial?

Pacific Northwest: Part III (Hurricane Ridge)

The next day dawned rainy (as evil Mr Weatherman had forecasted). We drove back east towards Seattle, and decided to try Hurricane Ridge to see if the rain would hold off. On the way up the Ridge, this is what we saw: [[image:pacnw47.jpg:Bambi? Is that you?:center:0]] Bambi! And his family, too: [[image:pacnw45.jpg:Bambi’s Aunty?:center:0]] [[image:pacnw46.jpg:Bambi’s Mommy?:center:0]] I couldn’t see any big antlers, so I presume these are female adults. Although what do I know about deer in North America? Nothing, really. In the meantime, what about another video distraction? Say “Hi, Bambi!!” [[image:pacnwbambi.jpg:Where’s Thumper and Flower?:center:0]] But this early on in the drive up, it looked promising (weather, I mean). We might be able to see some stuff. Right? Wrong! By the time we got to the top, to the lookout point, the temperature had dropped to below freezing, the wind was whipping us around, and freezing rain attacked us. 🙁 […]
