Azamar - Melee Skirmish

28 February 2011 | Hisham | | Artwork, Role Playing Games

Here's a quarter page interiror illustration for Wicked North Games of a Tre'uoall ranger versus an Orc warrior fighting on a hillslope and drawing blood... which should be in black and white in the final Azamar RPG core rule book.

Tre'uoall vs Orc, to the death!

Additionally, I will also show you step-by-step how I made the dish above.

31 Months

It's a miracle! Only a few days after the girl's 31 month birthday, this entry is being written? What's gotten into me? :-) Anyways, this past Tuesday the 22nd, Yaya turned 31 months old. Here she is:

Aww shucks!

Classic Kurt

Here's a quick sketch of Kurt, a former pupil of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, in his classic costume, and draped in shadows as usual. I believe the red in his costume is a manifestation of his subconscious desire to stand out among the shadows, even as a youngster mobs set out to burn him as a demon.

Artoo-Detoo: Generations

He once commanded a squad of friendly battle droid pilots into enemy space

The little Artoo is Irfan's which was purchased from Amcorp Mall last year.

The big Artoo was bought for me by my grandfather 30 years ago or thereabouts.

How time flies.

Irfan Goes To Petrosains

20 February 2011 | Hisham | | Family Pics

We all went for a trip to Petrosains Discovery Centre located at the fourth level of Suria KLCC today for the first time.

It was quite an informative and entertaining jaunt with a lot of interactive scientific experiments that children can participate in. There was even a Science Show where kids (well, one kid from the audience) participated in. There was even a short 3D film in a small theatre they had. It was quite an elaborate set-up and it took us three hours and forty minutes to complete the entire circuit.

I tweeted bits and pieces of our visit to Petrosains with photos. You could sift through the timestamped tweets here to the posts in question. But I thought this blog post would be a great way to consolidate all the posts (with photos) and insert untweeted photos as well. We started off in a ride through a dark tunnel which took us to imaginative displays to introduce science and nature to the visitor.

But writing about the visit does not do it justice. You just have to bring your family and friends there to enjoy the whole experience.

Here are photos from today's excursion. Mouseover the photos for captions.

Oversized molecules could still fall on our heads

Plasma tube sent crackles of electrical energy to Irfan's hand who then powers a fluorescent tube by holding it.

Mangog!

This is Mangog.

Mangog!

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Mangog is a classic Thor villian and the sum of the hatred of a billion billion dead beings.

Also, I love his name: MANGOG!

Azamar Out Shopping

19 February 2011 | Hisham | | Artwork, Role Playing Games

Let's buy some fruits and vegetables! Here's a piece on shopping for fruits and vegetables at a marketplace in Azamar.

Here's a hint: don't drop or jostle the Quepid root. Otherwise vegetables are good for you. Eat more vegetables.

Azamar Miscellanea

18 February 2011 | Hisham | | Artwork, Role Playing Games

With the release of the Azamar RPG core rulebook so close, I was still assigned several more art orders for the interior of the book. As before, although they're in colour here, the final product will have black and white interior pages.

Here are a pair of magic users, using magical energies augmented by their artifacts to fight it out.

Wand vs. Ring

The Enfri's colossal cetacean-shaped dirigibles are a sight to behold. I hope there will be a sourcebook - or at least, an article in D6 Magazine -  that will flesh out this vehicle more.

That's a whale of a ship right there

D6 Magazine Released

16 February 2011 | Hisham | | Artwork, Role Playing Games

Remember the cover I did a couple of posts ago? After months of work, finally the debut issue of D6 Magazine has finally been released into the wild. Apart from the aforementioned cover, I also helped the writers produce three interior artwork for it.

For the article "Crack of the Whip" by Michael Fraley, here's a whip-wielding woman in old-timey flightsuit and helmet... but with a one cyborg leg! How many ways can one use a whip using D6 rules? Read the article to find out.

Cross-genre Chick

I was commissioned by J. Elliot Streeter for his Cinema6 scenario "Asphyxia", where a spaceborne predator stalks the corridors of a sleeper ship. The following is the beast which is named Abyssian Hunter.

It'll give you tongue

Here's the unnamed sleeper ship with many cryogenic modules arrayed like stacks of containers. Will you, as the players, survive the scenario? Pickup a bunch of six-sided dice and have fun with it.

I think this ship is nameless

These two articles, as well as many others (including an exclusive interview with Bill Smith, former writer and developer of West End Games' Star Wars The Roleplaying Game) can be found in the first issue of D6 Magazine! Click here to head down to the D6 Magazine site for a download!

30 Months (She's 2 and a half!)

13 February 2011 | sila | | Family Pics

So the girl is now two and a half! Years!! How crazy is that? Time really does fly. Especially in 2011 since suddenly I am so very very late with this entry. Yaya's getting close to 31 months. But my excuse is work commitments. It's been a very busy 2011 with work deadlines and working on weekends and such. But enough on my excuses - let's just get to it.

I'm a big girl now!

Oh also, Happy Belated Birthday to Yaya's Wan Yong and Pak Yope!

Aww.. It's NOT Made of Mole Skin

Check out Irfan's Ewoks toon DVD under it

I've always bought sketchbooks they sell around here, but they're difficult to bring about and open for a quick sketch. Also, they don't have a lot of pages to draw. Last week, the awesome fellows over at GOKL got me an outstanding present for my birthday: this Moleskine sketchbook for impromtu sketching which Ivan passed to me when this event was transpiring.

Kryptonian... maybe I'll draw a Daxamite next

It looked so nice and pristine that I put off drawing in it to avoid sullying it with my scratchings, but I finally drew Clark a few nights ago.

Thanks for the present, guys.

The Ant Grapple of Death

06 February 2011 | Hisham | | Family Pics

David vs. Goliath - only David died and got stuck to Goliath

And so it came to pass that I had to drive pass Petaling Jaya toward Klang during the holidays, and we met up with Ivan for teh tarik. During the course of our hanging out, Ain flicked a bug off my neck and it fell onto the banana leaf on the table. It looked like an ant - except it was colossal, and was green in colour. Then we realised that it had a smaller red ant attached to it. At first we thought it was a battle to the death between the two insects, but we discovered that the little red ant was dead and a lifeless husk.

Get off my antenna!

An even closer inspection yielded a stranger observation: the dead red ant had its mandibles tightly bitten into the base of the green bug's antenna. Light prodding by us did not help loosen it from the larger insect.

So, with nothing we could do we bid farewell to the winner of the fight - but a loser in some ways - and watch it scramble away to look for new adventures with the dead ant still attached to its head.

Fearless Felines in Fantastic Fight

05 February 2011 | Hisham | | Artwork, Comics

The real Meow Mix!Streaky the Supercat was Supergirl's pet cat who was exposed to x-kryptonite and endowed Kryptonian powers. Together with Krypto, Beppo the Supermonkey, Comet the Superhorse and Proty, Chameleon Boy's pet, all the way from the 30th century - they form the Legion of Super-Pets! They fight crime back in the Silver Age of Comics!

DexStarr is the Red Lantern of space sector 2814 (our sector). He is also a cat with a lot of rage. He wears the Red Lantern ring on his tail as he looks for ways to unleash his anger (as well as some blood-soaked bodily fluids) at whatever comes his way.

Yay, kitty! ARGH!

Why hasn't there been a one-shot comic where a modern age Streaky fights DexStarr is beyond me.

Geoff Johns, are you listening?

Next up: Beppo the Supermonkey versus Gorilla Grodd and the Ultra-Humanite... (maybe... if I don't get distracted by shiny things... which I usually do.)

Have You Punched A Dinosaur Today?

04 February 2011 | Hisham | | Artwork, Role Playing Games

You don't have to punch one, really. You could also fly to with a jet pack and slug its jaw with a hammer.

Or perhaps you could stop punching dinosaurs and started hugging them. HAVE YOU HUGGED A DINOSAUR TODAY?

A gynosaur!

Here's the artwork for the cover of D6 Magazine, from the OpenD6 roleplaying community. I've played variations of the D6 system since 1989 and I can't recommend it enough. The actual magazine should be released within this next week.

A Reluctant Jedi

03 February 2011 | Hisham | | Artwork, Star Wars

Remember Admiral Tarn Majint from a couple of posts ago? Here's his daughter Qualtis Majint - with her blue robes and her blue-bladed lightsabre - who definitely does not resemble Bill Nighy in any way. Like any self-respecting character in any Star Wars RPG campaign, she loves thermal detonators.

We're not sure if she started the fire behind her.

Star Wars Crossover

02 February 2011 | Hisham | | Star Wars, Transformers

There's a breach in the spacetime continuum and strange, giant robotic entities fly through and bring their own war into the Galactic Republic! However, the creatures look somewhat familiar... eeriely familar. One faction allies itself with the Republic while another with the Separatists. With the sudden inclusion of powerful sapient giant transforming mechanical life-forms, the Clone Wars is taken to the next level!

I have the better Alec Guiness voice!" "No, I do!
My lightsabre is bigger than yours." "Oh, shut up.
