Khairul The Rodian Carbineer

02 October 2009 | Hisham | | Artwork, Friends, Star Wars

I'm finally a Rodian.

Not really.

But props to Asok Yeesrim the Gran, another Agent of SWAG, for illustrating a Rodian carbineer by the name of Khairul. Khairul was named in honour of myself. The artwork looks badass, with fantastic costume and prop design. Also of note is the Rodian's lack of flexible spines on his scalp, which coincidentally I have doodled before to draw a "bald" Rodian.

Thanks, man. I really dig your Mike Allred-esque style. Here's hoping Khairul the Rodian has more luck bringing in the credits than I do.

Strikeforce Enteague: The Pioneer Team

09 August 2009 | Hisham | | Artwork, Role Playing Games, Star Wars

Once upon a time I had a Geocities Page, where upon I uploaded a lot of Star Wars artwork. Soon the plug will be pulled on Geocities, so a link there from here is a futile gesture. However, there are a bunch of drawings of my first ever Strikeforce Enteague campaign character for the Star Wars Roleplaying Game from back in 1989. The game started in 1989, but these drawings are from 2001 - 2002, by the way. I thought I'd upload them on here for posterity's sake. (Note: this is not every player character of that era. Someday, I'll get around to drawing everyone.)

Players, you know who you are.

Gauntlet Starfighter

06 August 2009 | Hisham | | Artwork, Star Wars

Shobquix-yards Gauntlet StarfighterGauntlet starfighter, manufactured by Shobquix Yards, was created a long time ago by West End Games for their Star Wars Roleplaying Game line as can be seen here at Wookieepedia. It first appeared in Planets of the Galaxy, Vol 1 in the "Isen IV" chapter. And in its debut, it was only a tiny little stats block. No image at all.

So I thought to myself the other day, why don't I try to draw one based on the plans seen in the Wookieepedia entry above which was later released in a later publication.

SWAG Request: Rhen Sannin

30 August 2008 | Hisham | | Artwork, Friends, Star Wars

Rhen Sannin the Freighter CaptainShane's about to start a Star Wars RPG campaign and requested his major NPC Rhen Sannin, the freighter captain from the Star Wars Artists' Guild.

After giving some time for any other guild members to pick it up, I decided to claim the request earlier today... so I got to practice with the tablet and Painter Classic again, which is always good.

After some hours, here's Captain Rhen Sannin all made up and prettied, complete with blue milk on the side, cyborged limb and a datapad.

Click here for its SWAG entry page.

Hope this artwork gets some milage in your campaign, buddy.

More Pictures Painted With A Tablet

21 August 2008 | Hisham | | Artwork

This time it's not me.

Irfan's learned to not only draw and colour pictures digitally, but he's also learnt to use layers. I'd create a file for him with two layers, and he'll do the rest. He select the top layer to draw his line art. Then, he'll select the bottom layer and choose the colours he want to paint.

Let's go through one artwork at a time:

Take for example this piece here, some kind of a plant based monster complete with petals and legs. Bewildered by the roof like structure atop the monster's face, he finally revealed to me today that the creature was based on Constance's final incarnation in Monster House. The antennae apparently receives television signals.

Irfan drew some stuff which I thought I'd put up here.

Here's Irfan's Abah.

So that's apparently me...

And then, here's Irfan's Ummi.

... then here's Ain.

Arakyd Diamondback Droid Stats

12 August 2008 | Hisham | | Artwork, Role Playing Games, Star Wars

It was during the Enteague Sector campaign for the Star Wars Roleplaying Game which I GMed perhaps fifteen years ago. A new team of the Strikeforce Enteague, consisting of younger members, had to investigate the Malc Toldreyn Library on the planet Neeuderni to solve the campaign mystery arc of why an Imperial Admiral (no names here, cause in retrospect the NPC naming convention I used at around this time sucked) wanted Ham Slacker the tongue-tied engineer dead.

Naturally, the Imperials attacked during the investigation. Radio communications on and around the planet was jammed. It turned out that the Imps had deployed a Diamondback droid which is designed to jam planetary and interplanetary communications. The group borrowed the local defence forces' CloakShape fighters to attack the droid, which had its own defences in the form of anti-fighter cannons.

I 've rewritten down the D6 stats slightly modified from my original pencil notes and uploaded them to Phil Hatfield's site D6 Universe for posterity's sake.

I've reproduced it here for my own reference.

Illustration Friday: Sail

10 August 2008 | Hisham | | Artwork

Wind in the sails... squawk!

The topic for Illustration Friday for this week is "sail", as can be seen above. Now what would be weird is if the camera pans down and we see the mast planted firmly on a field instead of a boat. A higher resolution version of the image can be found here.

Only You Can Save The World

09 August 2008 | Hisham | | Artwork, Friends

I was tagged with a meme by Lil at iFantabulous some time ago and I finally got around to writing (and illustrating) it today.

What I have to do is to fill out the form with 5 lines below to reveal my secret superhero identity and come up with an image of my alter ego.

So, a superhero, eh? Here goes nothing.

Illustration Friday: Poof!

Or more specifically, what happens after the poof!

Yes. A guy in a lab coat is cooking something... maybe.

For Illustration Friday.

Illustration Friday: Foggy

Finally an Illustration Friday artwork that's actually published on a Friday!

This week's  topic is apparently "foggy".

Click on the thumbnail to the left to see the full illustration.

It's nothing special. Just a simple, literal interpretation of the topic.

An Illustration Friday entry, done before the weekend is over. The topic is merely "Baby". The other parts where it has cables connected to its cranium and spine are mostly me.

A Novel Tale of a Novel Cover

06 May 2008 | Hisham | | Artwork, Books, Misc Sci-Fi

Once upon a time, I went to study on how to repair flying machines.

During my dozens of years (not really, just 2 and a half years) of studying there were many instructors that taught me different aspects of flying machine repairs.

Some taught me metalwork, some taught me electrics, some taught me theory of flight.

One particular person taught me about turbine engines. He was a tall gentleman, he was.

Over the years after I returned home, I've always known from second hand accounts that he's now living in this country. In recent years, I've had the pleasure of meeting up with him again briefly.

Last month, he and his lovely wife came down all the way from Ulu Klang (which is about 10 klicks up the Middle Ring Road) asked me to produce a cover for a science fiction novel that he has written and is about to publish.

So I've used all my turbine engine skills and knowledge* to come up with this following cover:

A cover of a book...

This is only a draft. It might be used, or it might not. But one thing's for sure, I had a lot of fun conjuring up the painting.

Further details about the novel shall be written as entries unto this website when I get more information about it and its upcoming release.

*"...turbine engine skills and knowledge"? Not bloody likely.

The Gallery Is Upgraded

27 April 2008 | Hisham | | Artwork, Hishgraphics.com

After a long time of uploading images and hard coding the html (and later php) files into the Hishgraphics Gallery, I've now deleted the old setup and replaced it with a proper Coppermine Gallery CMS. It took some time to get the hang of the system, but I think I have it down enough to get by. There are still a bunch of stuff from the old gallery still not updated to the new place, but I'll fill it up as time goes by.

Sorry, I don't intend for the gallery to be a community site - that's what this blog is for - so comments and ratings are disabled. Just enjoy the stuff I got on there.

Two Alien SWAG Requests

18 March 2008 | Hisham | | Artwork, Star Wars

It's been a while since I took some time off to draw requests for SWAG. Here are two new characters: Colonel Toby Aambar, as requested by "donp" and Whistler, as requested by "Velovich". Toby is an Ortolan not an ortolan, and Whistler is a Tynnan, whose species first appeared in Brian Daley's Han Solo's Revenge.

Gungan Slicer, A SWAG Request

30 September 2007 | Hisham | | Artwork, Star Wars

... with a bad attitudeMy first official completed SWAG request since this blog went live is done. The artwork was requested by Acheron and he wanted a picture of a Gungan slicer (a Star Wars term for a hacker, is all).

So, here's a purple skinned Gungan like Captain Tarpals, wearing a headgear with a comlink and a blaster pistol, quickly typing on the keyboard to retrieve some restricted data from a computer database.

Hopefully, he isn't discovered by guards any time soon.

As a bonus, here's a SWAG blog (Swog?) entry of the picture taking it through three days as a work-in-progress in this laptop, from its pencil work in Painter Classic to what it turned out to be.
