Another whirlwind month filled with stuff to do, places to go, and people to see has passed. And Adik is 8 months old!

So Adik is still commando crawling and starting to crawl over low hurdles (e.g., 1 pillow, 1 outstretched leg) but still has trouble crawling over anything higher than that. He’s terribly funny when he learns to do something. He yells a wild war whoop when his attempts finally succeed, and then he goes around and repeats the thing, practising his little heart out. Adik is very determined, and it’s so funny to see him putting his game face on. We still have to keep him from being trampled by his sister, but he is starting to stand his ground against her. He keeps going after the things she’s playing with (after she’s grabbed it out of his hands first, usually) and tries to grab it back from her. He is also fascinated by “the big thing” (i.e., the iPad) – and Yaya has so far refused to share it with him. She won’t even let him watch the show she’s watching on it if he asks. It’s quite funny. Adik loves all gadgetry (apparently it starts young with the male of the species) – he has had a long time love of the TV remote, and now it has extended to the phones and the iPod. He just loves getting his hands on these and holding them (and chewing on them).
Also this is the day that we noticed him pushing himself up to a sitting position all by himself! Go Adik!!
He does love to laugh and smile, and yell and interact with people. So far still a very social baby. You can always tell when he’s in a good mood – even if he’s playing by himself he will be cooing happily (is he going to be a hummer?). Adik is definitely into music – he’s not interested in the TV unless there’s music on it. Then he will stop what he’s doing and go into the music zone – he ignores the world around him, and bops along merrily in his own version of the dancing baby.
Food-wise, still nursing a lot. We are on the same schedule as last month (2 pump-feed cycles, segmented sleep) but he is getting a little extra formula since he seems to always want more. He is getting about 3-4 ounces of formula a day and that seems to appease his hunger. He also digs the solids. The following are the foods that he’s tried this month (adhering to the 4-day trial) and his rating of the food:
1. Mashed bananas (thumbs up)
2. Butternut squash puree (thumbs up)
3. Blueberry puree (thumbs up)
4. Carrot puree (thumbs up)
Not as many new tries due to traveling and such, but he gets solids at least once a day. And now let’s move on to how Adik spent his 8 month birthday (he was not stuck in a car this time, he wasn’t). In the morning, Vin takes him and Yaya down to give me time to catch up on sleep. Often the 8-10 AM period is the longest stretch of uninterrupted sleep that I get.

Adik gets a chance to crawl around exploring the stage area:

And then it was time to play in the fort with Yaya (a.k.a. fun with drying comforters):

Adik takes a break to nap and nurse while Mama works in the office. After which time, Adik is ready to go again!

And then, after Mama eats lunch and Adik has exhausted himself again, we go upstairs to the bedroom so Adik can nap and nurse and Mama can continue working. The afternoon sun is too strong in the office and makes us both too hot! Plus this way, Yaya and Papa can run around having fun together without worrying about waking him up. There’s some set up involved upstairs so the kids have to amuse themselves:

Adik takes a nice long nap, and we slot in their baths after the nap (early rather than at bedtime). Adik loves to interact with Yaya after the bath – he gets her on his level while she is being dried and dressed. He gets to smack her face a bit, and pull her hair, and yell right at her face and Yaya loves it too. We have to mediate to ensure that the violence doesn’t escalate. 😉

Then we go downstairs for dinner and the evening festivities.

Then a bit more roaming around. Look, he got into a sitting position all by himself!

And then it was bedtime for little boys (and their sisters and parents). Good night everyone! Happy 8-month birthday, baby boy! We love you!! One final picture to close out this entry, and we’ll see you all next month!
