Dex-Starr vs Streaky

Fearless Felines in Fantastic Fight

Streaky the Supercat was Supergirl’s pet cat who was exposed to x-kryptonite and endowed Kryptonian powers. Together with Krypto, Beppo the Supermonkey, Comet the Superhorse and Proty, Chameleon Boy’s pet, all the way from the 30th century – they form the Legion of Super-Pets! They fight crime back in the Silver Age of Comics! DexStarr is the Red Lantern of space sector 2814 (our sector). He is also a cat with a lot of rage. He wears the Red Lantern ring on his tail as he looks for ways to unleash his anger (as well as some blood-soaked bodily fluids) at whatever comes his way. Yay, kitty! ARGH! Why hasn’t there been a one-shot comic where a modern age Streaky fights DexStarr is beyond me. Geoff Johns, are you listening? Next up: Beppo the Supermonkey versus Gorilla Grodd and the Ultra-Humanite… (maybe… if I don’t get distracted by shiny things… […]

Guy

[[image:dc-guy.jpg:One punch?:center:0]] Who needs a proper bed when you can create one from your power ring? Guy is currently assigned to the planet Oa in Space Sector 0. He also runs a bar and restaurant there where all the ringslingers hang out or go for a meal. He’s also from Baltimore, so I wonder if he liked watching The Wire on TV. [[image:dc-hal.jpg:Martin Jordan’s kid:center:0]]  Hal here is a test pilot for Ferris Aircraft. Somehow he has plenty of spare time from his day job to moonlight as an officer of the Green Lantern Corps, assigned to Space Sector 2814 with his partner John. Here he is wearing his green power ring in flight looking not at all like Ryan Reynolds. Click here to view or download a larger version of the image.

Don’t Mess With Mickey’s Cockatoo – An Iron Man 2 Review

Tony Stark is back on the big screen again in Iron Man 2. And this time he’s brought more friends as well as enemies. General thoughts about it after watching it last Thursday: Another awesome movie which Robert Downey Jr. starred as Tony Stark, but also allowed every character to shine. No one was wasted. The story is much more complex, which I guess made it more difficult for the filmmakers to make a tighter movie like the first one. But excellent performances around and a much more epic final battle (that made the first movie’s a little two-round bout) made up for it. As per the first movie, unlike most modern superhero movies no one dresses in black and broods like a 16-year-old. Maybe, they find themselves in deep thought for a bit, but after the apparently-therapeutical “engineering montage” everyone’s happy and eager to fly and blow crap up. […]

Do They Sell This Suitcase Anywhere?

This nifty suitcase appears to be pretty cool, and seem to be good to have with you all the time. When you need to use it, all you have to do is activate it at your feet, like so: Then you wait for it to quickly unfold and show a pair of handgrips. You grab on to the handgrips and twist them, like so: Then you bring it up to your chest, like so: Then you stretch your arms outwards still holding the handgrips, exposing the arc reactor and automatically causing all the other parts to glide and snap into position all around your body, like so: Then you wait for the headpiece to pivot and slide over your head and form a helmet, like so: Finally, profit! Coming soon May 7, 2010.

Greedo Goes To Duro

[[image:greedo-goes-to-duro.jpg:Greedo, he goes to Duro!:right:0]]Back in late 2001-early 2002 when I was really down and out, one of the things I tried was sending samples of sequential comic art to comic companies. I never really followed up on them, but one of the things I came up with was the pencilling of an eight-page original unscripted Star Wars story entitled “Greedo Goes To Duro“. It was something that could have easily made for an issue of the now-discontinued Star Wars Tales anthology from Dark Horse Comics. But it wasn’t. This week, I found photocopies of the pages I did after I went digging under the bed. Seriously, it was deep in a folder under many folders in a dust-layered box under the bed. When I found it, I too had become heavily encrusted with ancient dust, dust bunnies, dust pangolins and dust capybaras. Here it is presented in the Gallery […]

Dog Carcass In Alley This Morning, Tire Tread On Burst Stomach

[[image:200903-watchmen1.jpg:L-R Peacemaker, Nightshade, Captain Atom, Thunderbolt, Blue Beetle and The Question:center:0]]The limited series comic book Watchmen was released by DC Comics more than 20 years ago. Written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons, this comic was the start of a new age in the medium. Along with its contemporary, Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, it deconstructs the superhero genre by showing us what extreme conditions can produce costumed crimefighters, what kind of personalities they have and what happens to them when they are considered illegal… all existing in an alternate 1985 timeline where Nixon is still the president of the United States and the world is living in the shadow of imminent nuclear war. Because of the very rich and detailed storylinetold within the space of 12 issues and several fictional documents per issue, such as book exceprt, interviews, letters, news and magazine clippings to support the […]

The Corps is Mother, The Corps is Father

Roll call for the members of Green Lantern Corps that appeared in the pre-credits teaser of the Batman: The Brave and the Bold episode “Day of the Dark Knight!” I’ll bet Green Lanterns Bzzd (a tiny fly-like alien), Leezle Pon (a super-intelligent smallpox virus) and Dkrtzy RRR (a sapient abstract mathematical formula) are also present but invisible to the naked eye in the scene. 🙂 Notes: Droxelle – I’m not certain if that’s her. RRU-9-2 – At first I thought it was Stel of Sector 3009, but this robotic GL has larger shoulder pauldrons and the U-shaped recess behind the Corps emblem on his chest. There are also a bunch of other GLs in the background that I couldn’t identify. Bonus point: Kilowog calls someone “Poozer”.
