Just a quick one with pictures. We begin with a photoshoot of the kids wearing their Raya finery (thank you Opah and Atok!):

The above pictures were taken on the day that the package arrived from Malaysia. On the actual first day of Raya, I worked. But I did make beef rendang and nasi minyak:

No kuih rayas, sorry. No pulut either. On the second day of raya (Friday), I took the afternoon off and we went to Jungle Jim’s, a local international grocer/superstore:

We got some mangosteens and lychees, but decided to pass on the black rambutan. For those who do not know, a ripe rambutan should either be a bright red color, or a bright yellow color. Unripe rambutans are green. Black rambutans – well, let’s just say that is not the ideal condition for a rambutan to be eaten. We spent a good couple of hours at the store – Yaya loved all the exhibits that they had – Campbell’s can of soup with a face riding on a swing, pirate ships with pirates and other characters and animals, etc. Yaya’s favorite was the zoo-like exhibit outside:

Then we detoured to the Straits of Malacca, picked up a bunch of takeout and stuffed our faces that night. Selamat Hari Raya, maaf zahir dan batin from all of us here. We miss you all and wish we could be home celebrating with you.
