Rafe’s 27 Month Birthday

Twenty-seven months old now! [[image:2014-adik27month-03.jpg:Ooo-chak! Peekaboo!:center:0]] * Mouse over the pictures for comments Speech status: There is nothing this child can’t say. He does have trouble with Malay or Spanish though, but English, he’s good. He speaks in full sentences. He does, adorably, sound like Ming Ming saying his Ls and Rs exactly like she does. Is this a symptom of watching too much Wonder Pets during my pregnancy? Perhaps. I love how he says “Bradley” (the name of his stuffed bearcat). It ends up being “Byadyey”. For whatever reason, this just makes me laugh and laugh. He is also learning to introduce himself. “Hi, my name’s Adik” (or sometimes Rafiq or Rafe). Shakes hands. He also loves pretending we have different names. “Mama, your name Siwa?” I say Yes, Adik. My name is Sila. He says “Not! MY name is Siwa!” And he laughs at his own joke, and […]

Robotech RPG: The Sinkhole Situation

Irfan began a playing a new game today: Palladium’s Robotech RPG. Sila had a copy back in our teenage years. I played less than her friends and her did because I was away from home for most of the time. We were totally into Robotech. Sila taped every episode for me to watch when I’m back from boarding school. We bought and read as many of the Jack McKinney novelizations as we could. And 25 years later Irfan is now playing it. I’m running it. I admit I was curious to see how the system feels like when I’m now 40 years old. He rolled up an RDF Veritech pilot named John Barnes. Actual play report follows: January 7, 2009 RDF Nouakchott Base Flight officer Barnes was an F-22 fighter pilot, assigned to the Robotech Defense Force base outside Nouakchott, the capital city of Mauritania. His usual missions were flying patrol […]

68 Months

68 months now! Five and 2/3 years old! Whee! [[image:2014-yaya68month-13.jpg:Chuffed about something!:center:0]] * Mouse over the pictures for captions Food status: nothing new. She is still eating our homemade bread. I am thinking I should talk to her pediatrician and perhaps sneak in some vitamins in powder form (hopefully some kind of no-taste thingy) into the bread. We will see. We were on the road for two weeks out of the past month so while on the road, Yaya subsisted on circle toast (cinnamon raisin english muffins), green chips (Lay’s Sour Cream n Onion potato chips) and milk. Some mornings she ate bagels. Sometimes she ate pizza. But she ate so much circle toast that she did confess to missing Mama’s bread at home. 🙂 Reading status: same as last month. Still progressing. However, my friend Amy posted this article that made me feel much better. Yaya cannot sit still […]

Some Imperial officer using the droids for his escort

Paper Minis: Floating Droids

Here are three types of floating droids as paper miniatures for use with the Star Wars Roleplaying Game. You’ve seen the Marksman-H training remote before in Star Wars, where Luke trained with one on the Millennium Falcom. There’s also the Mark IV sentry droid that helped the sandtroopers in Mos Eisley look for Luke and Ben. Finally there’s the “recon droid” from The Clone Wars. Still unnamed officially, This appears to be a smaller version of the larger Arakyd Viper probe droid seen in Empire Strikes Back. Each of these can easily be low-level obstacles for players in your game session. Even the training remote’s sting beam can be refitted with something stronger to ensure players are sufficiently challenged… or killed… or both. Note: These droids aren’t remotely to scale with other human-sized figures. Download from Google Drive for free and assemble it for immediate use.

Paper Minis: Elite Battle Droids

We return to the droid army of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, specifically the BX commando droids and the Droideka destroyer droids; six each. These should be fearsome enough mechanical obstacles for your players. You could use these paper miniatures in a Clone Wars campaign for the Star Wars roleplaying game, but you could also have these appear in Rebellion Era campaign whereby players discover private individuals or corporations or governments that still employ these droids for security purposes. Perhaps players stumble across a crashed Separatist warship where these droids have long been in stasis, awaiting for some clumsy character to inadvertently activate them. Paper Minis: Specialised Stormtroopers

More Imperial paper miniatures for Star Wars RPG! Imperial Radiation Zone Assault Troopers a.k.a. “Radtroopers” are a specially trained and geared subgroup in the Stormtrooper Corps that fight in highly radioactive environments. Use them when the player characters are in “hot” zones. Crashed. Rescue operations. These troops can be the opposition. Imperial Storm Commandos are an elite members of the Stormtrooper Corps that perform covert operations, sabotage and precision strikes behind enemy lines. You could use them whenever you want Imperial armoured ninjas to be a thorn on the player characters’ sides. Click here to download and assemble the paper miniatures from Google Drive.

Paper Minis: Treaty of Vontor

Once upon a time, during the war between the Hutts and Xim the Despot, the Treaty of Vontor was drawn between the Hutt families and three major species in the Si’Klaata Cluster, namely the Klatooinians, the Niktos and the Vodrans. After winning the battle, these species became permanently subservient to the Hutts. These are aliens that only appeared in Return of the Jedi, so no Vodrans. Sorry, Vodrans. Also known as the Day The Earth Stood Still-referenced aliens. “Nikto” originally referred to the Red Niktos (Kajain’sa’Nikto) that appeared in Return of the Jedi. Eventually it became the name of the entire species. “Klaatu” originally referred to the green-skinned skiff guard in Return of the Jedi. The name stuck over the years and the species was renamed Green Nikto (Kadas’sa’Nikto). “Barada” still refers to the skiff guard and the head of Jabba’s vehicle pool. His species was officially named Klatooinian. Download […]

Paper Minis: Hutts’ Hired Hands

Anybody up for five Weequays and five Gamorreans in paper miniature form for Star Wars RPG? If your player characters will be facing off a Hutt crime lord (or a Hutt business owner), you can have the Hutt protect by these employees. I should have made these up before I ran Return to Mos Shuuta. I have run adventures that took place on Sriluur before, by the way. Plenty of Weequays there. Download the Hutts’ Hired Hands paper minis from Google Drive here.

Night’s Black Agents: Let Slip The Ovcharkas of War

Last time on Night’s Black Agents: Jacob Novazembla, Nikolai Kaidanovsky, Sami Härkönen, Brendan, Shiina “Misha” Mikado and Zlatan Kljujic were finally reunited at the heavily fortified ranch of King Valentin the “Devil’s Husband” after extracting his love, the Romani vampire Vienna “Vin” Cesarescu from the deadly R-Team, Inish Medical‘s special operations team. Leaving Faris Barrar and his men stranded in Bucharest, Romania, they fled across the Bulgarian border and the Danube river near Ruse and Shtraklevo. Day 05 Monday: Very Early Morning Brunch Planning It was late after midnight after everyone had some hours of catching up, rest and planning. Since Vin needed the Inish serum to function in daytime without adverse effects from the sun and going on a bloodlust, Nikolai – a former Russian GRU operative who was also a medical doctor – went immediately to work at the ranch’s lab trying to analyse the vial she entrusted them with. She kept the other one, […]

Rafe’s 26 Month Birthday

And now the boy is twenty-six months old! [[image:2014-adik26month-23.jpg:Happily gnoming on goldfish crackers:center:0]] * Mouse over the pictures for captions Speech status: as with last month, Adik is very verbal and loves to use his words. Here are some of his (and my) favorite phrases this past month* I don’t KNOW!!!* Oh my goodness! He has also been obsessed with Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours” which he sings to (with or without piano accompaniment, youtube or mikes). He listened to this song enough times that he knows most of the words to it (which is more than I can say for myself). He also loves “Hey Soul Sister” by Train. It is very funny when he breaks into song apropo of nothing. The boy loves his youtube music videos. He has also taken a shine to classic rock – AC/DC and Queen. It’s really funny to see him dance and sing […]
