More TTRPG news!

Besides the Star Wars Day Learn-to-Play and GM Star Wars RPG Workshop at Here Be Dragons My on May the Fourth, there are a couple of notable events that are happening in the world of Tabletop games in Kuala Lumpur in coming weeks.

First of all, KakiTabletop is organising an International Tabletop Day at Great Eastern Mall.

Press release:

KakiTabletop is organising an event for one of the year’s most anticipated events in a Malaysian gamer’s calendar: International Tabletop Day. It’s a global celebration for all analog gamers, who will be hanging out, playing new games and making new friends.

All four major tabletop gaming genres will be covered: Board Games, Miniature Games, RolePlaying Games, and Trading Card Games; each genre will have a dedicated quadrant. While the event is Free Entry (no tickets required,) some of the workshops and sessions will require pre-registration & a small fee to play.

On the first weekend in June, gamers unite for International Tabletop Day; a day to celebrate a pastime that has been played for centuries, touching the lives of millions around the world.

Sponsored by Great Eastern Mall, curated by KakiTabletop and friends, this year’s event will be held in the former’s ground floor concourse on the first weekend of June, from June 1 till 2. The breadth of games available will include local and international games, and all tabletop gaming genres!

There will be game spaces for tabletop RPGs, boardgaming, miniature wargaming and trading card games! If you are into the hobby or if you are interested to find out more, please join the fun on the 1st and 2nd of June. Great Eastern Mall. Sadly I will not be able to attend as I will be occupied elsewhere.

Apparently early this month was the last gathering of TTREXKL (Tabletop at Rex Kuala Lumpur). I always thought some day when I return to KL for a week or so, I could attend this public tabletop session at Rex KL. However, I was surprised to discover that it has been discontinued. According to KakiTabletop:

Last week, attendees of #TTREXKL: Tabletop Thursdays at REXKL unknowingly gathered for the last time; REXKL, a *unique arts & culture hub that provides memorable experiences,* has decided to pull the plug and end support for our community’s presence in their space.

As we watched many fresh faces mingle with our regulars, talking excitedly about the games they’ve brought for the night, and catching up on news since we last saw each other last month… we felt nostalgic. It’s been two years since the very first TTREXKL meetup in 2022.

Time flies when you’re having a good time, but all the good things must come to an end.

It’s an end of an era…

KakiTabletop will keep on trucking and create more game spaces for hobbyists and gamers to come together and have fun with tabletop games in the future. Additionally, there are a number of other parties running RPG tables elsewhere (like me). There also the KakiTabletop Discord server for gamers to coordinate their gaming efforts.

As their press release states:

Started as a community-building effort that started 10* years ago, it has evolved from merely bringing together Dungeons & Dragons players from all over Malaysia, to include Magic: the Gathering, designer board games, miniature wargamers, and more… Today, the network of communities encompasses practically every major game and genre of tabletop gaming in Malaysia!

We await with bated breath to see what comes next from KakiTabletop.
