Robot on a dead world

Esoteric Underground Cover

Several months ago, Chris Mennell requested a cover are for his new RPG zine entitled Esoteric Underground. I tried to finish it as soon as I could, but it was still a slog to get through because of day job workload. Needless to say, I was late in submitting the piece. Recently, Chris unveiled Esoteric Underground #1 with layouts by Beau Sheldon. The zine is a “zine collecting information about upcoming and current tabletop roleplaying games in that are on the fringes. ” Here is my cover art. Click on the image to expand it. Where is this robot? What is it looking for? Why are there huge sarcophagi in the background? What are the blue crystals in the strange rock formations behind the stele? You may download Esoteric Underground #1 for free from itch dot io here.

Issue 89 is here

TeeKay-421 Comp Copy

Today I received a pair of complementary copies of a magazine. Issue 89 of Teekay-421, the official Belgian Star Wars fan club magazine, sports my cover art of Sabine Wren rolling some dice in front of a faux-Edge of the Empire gamemaster screen! The magazine itself is fully printed in Belgian Dutch, so I am unable to read it. Even so, it does look like it has a lot of great features that I would enjoy reading. The theme of the issue is Mandalorians, so the magazine features write-ups of Mandalorians in canon and Legends; even their vehicles and in-universe art! Of course The Mandalorian TV series starring Pedro Pascal and run by Jon Favreau is featured prominently. Someday I might even write about the show on this blog. There are reviews of the latest Star Wars novels, books, comics and games throughout the magazine, making it an important resource […]

TeeKay-421 Cover Art

Yesterday, TeeKay-421 the official Belgian Star Wars fan club magazine revealed their cover for their upcoming issue 89. The cover was illustrated by me. Check it out below: The theme was Mandalorians. I could draw a number of famous Mandalorians played by Ray Stevenson or Jon Favreau or Katee Sackoff or Pedro Pascal. Then I thought Tiya Sircar missed out on playing Edge of the Empire with her castmates on GEGG Wars. I decided to have Sabine Wren roll some Fantasy Flight Games dice with a custom GM screen for the cover of issue 89. The original tweet is displayed below: Preview: TeeKay-421 Magazine 89 @TeeKay421be ! Art by @hishgraphics 🙂 pic.twitter.com/KpH4iYFtwq — Sompeetalay (@Sompeetalay) August 2, 2019

Robot Cavemen

After the first two covers I made for Patrick F. Murphy, here’s the third cover in his series of young adult adventure books, the Return of the Undead Cavemen! It’s the same character from the first two books. The art order called for three Neanderthals carrying three children into the night. What for? You’ll have to read the book to find out. Watch this space for upcoming product purchase links.

Cover Art: Dark Side of Loridian

I recently made the cover art for DwD Studios’ upcoming adventure module for their science fiction roleplaying game FrontierSpace entitled Dark Side of Loridian. It looks a little bit like this: I am also tasked with drawing several interior artwork which I will post here after the product has been released.

Dinosaur Zombies and Robot Werewolves

Back in 2014 I made a cover for self-published author Patrick F Murphy for his novel for young adult readers, entitled Attack of the Dinosaur Zombies. Earlier this year, I was commissioned to create an illustration for the sequel to that novel Howl of the Robot Werewolves. You can not love books with those titles! Check them out at their links above. Here are the covers I made for both novels. Addendum (3rd June 2019): Here’s the cover for the third book in the series.

Ruthermore’s First Cover: Redux

The cover of Ruthermore Heidigens and the Fifth Planet was the first in the series that I drew for Ebb and Folks back in 2011. There was a request for an enhancement of the cover. Originally painted in water colours, I employed GIMP to give it a digital upgrade by smoothing out roughness and applying digital paints where required. For a look at the original painting, click here.

Ruthermore’s Fourth Cover

After creating the cover of David Leyman’s debut entry of his science fiction story Ruthermore Heidigens and the Fifth Planet, followed by the covers of two subsequent entries, Ruthermore Heidigens and the Voices and Ruthermore Heidigens and the Nights at the Round Table, now comes the cover I made for the upcoming fourth installment of the series in Ruthermore Heidigens and the Fires of Avalon! Cover for Mecha RPG: Reign of the Descended

Heroic Journey Publishing’s Mecha RPG: Reign of the Descended has been released on DriveThruRPG. It’s a setting book for Chris Perrin’s Mecha role-playing game where players live in an apocalyptic aftermath of an alien invasion. The human resistance fighters are underpowered and badly armed, but with the power armour in their possession, the player characters can plan to fight the alien invaders and kick them off the Earth once and for all. I drew its cover, which looks like this: Here is a glimpse of the cover process artwork: Check out the Reign of the Descended setting at DriveThruRPG!

Cartol’s Emporium

Jegergryte did not wish to disturb me after I created artwork for his Edge of the Empire group, so he requested an artwork on SWAG. After a month or so without being picked up – and I had some free time to spare – I yoinked it The drawing of the modified Kuat Drive Yards EF-76 Nebulon-B escort frigate would be used for the cover of his Edge of the Empire homebrewed supplement entitled Cartol’s Emporium. To make the Emporium seem busy with business, I also included other ships in the artwork. Ships from campaigns I ran or played in! Clockwise from lower left: Nova Coyote – a Corellian YT-1760 from WOTC’s Star Wars Gamer from Team Sabredart the SWAG Clone Wars D6 campaign. A Bad Example – a SoroSuub Personal Luxury 3000 space yacht from A Bad Example in the Spacelanes our D6 campaign here a couple of years […]

After producing some interior artwork for Heroic Journey Publishing’s Mecha Mercenaries last year, they commissioned some more artwork for their new supplement, Kaiju: A Mecha Supplement of Terrible Creatures and Giant Fighting Robots to be released in the near future. Click here to check out Mecha Mercenaries at RPGNow. You would require the Chris Perrin’s Mecha RPG core rule book to run the game. Cover for Five’s The End

[[image:ebb-n-folks-5s-the-end-cover.jpg:Cover with the creature Three:center:0]] Here is another cover commissioned by Ebb and Folks. Five’s The End is a novella by David Leyman that completes the trilogy that begins with Three’s Company and continues with Four of a Kind (the second artwork in this post). The style of digital inks and colours (instead of a painterly look) of the cover for all three novellas is an editorial decision.

The Paradise Fragment cover

Cover for Azamar: The Paradise Fragment

Apart from some interior art I did for Wicked North Games’ Azamar RPG supplement The Paradise Fragment – as seen in a previous post – I was also tasked with the painting of the cover for the book. It took me three different tries to get it right. The floating city of Adrya Orth proved a difficult factor in painting it because I tried putting the city and a couple of characters before it in an action pose. This caused characters to partially block the city. Finally I just put more characters in the picture but positioned them further away, and voila: For a closer look of the cover art, check out its entry at my DeviantArt gallery here.
