Female Nagai

It’s been a while since I did a Star Wars Artists’ Guild request. Here’s an unnamed Nagai female as requested by Matt on the boards for one of his two campaigns. Maybe she’s Xepheer Xeneeth‘s girlfriend or something. A bigger version can be found on DeviantArt.

2002 Interview at the Star Wars Artists’ Guild

Interviews with the staff illustrators were some of the contents that we planned as the original Star Wars Artists’ Guild was being developed. The current incarnation of the site does not have the old interviews, which were fun and had a running gag of people hiding behind curtains throughout. Here is a copy of the interview that Derek Jones did with me, which was the second interview to be featured on SWAG: DJ: I’ve spoken with our first featured artist, Khairul Hisham, a fantastic artist from Malaysia that we are proud to have as a Guild Member. His style is greatly reminiscent of the artwork found in WEG sourcebooks and it turns out, he’s a really interesting fellow. KH: I’m glad to be having this interview with you, Derek. It’s not everyday I get interviewed in the Waldorf-Astoria. *sigh* Well! I can dream, can’t I? DJ: Yes, yes you can! […]

Khairul the Rodian

Khairul The Rodian Carbineer

I’m finally a Rodian. Not really. But props to Asok Yeesrim the Gran, another Agent of SWAG, for illustrating a Rodian carbineer by the name of Khairul. Khairul was named in honour of myself. The artwork looks badass, with fantastic costume and prop design. Also of note is the Rodian’s lack of flexible spines on his scalp, which coincidentally I have doodled before to draw a “bald” Rodian. Click here to view a larger image on DeviantArt. Thanks, man. I really dig your Mike Allred-esque style. Here’s hoping Khairul the Rodian has more luck bringing in the credits than I do.

Shobquix-yards Gauntlet Starfighter

Gauntlet Starfighter

Gauntlet starfighter, manufactured by Shobquix Yards, was created a long time ago by West End Games for their Star Wars Roleplaying Game line as can be seen here at Wookieepedia. It first appeared in Planets of the Galaxy, Vol 1 in the “Isen IV” chapter. And in its début, it was only a tiny little stat block. No image at all. So I thought to myself the other day, why don’t I try to draw one based on the plans seen in the Wookieepedia entry above which was later released in a later publication. Rhen Sannin the Freighter Captain

SWAG Request: Rhen Sannin

Shane’s about to start a Star Wars RPG campaign and requested his major – NPC Rhen Sannin, the freighter captain – from the Star Wars Artists’ Guild. After giving some time for any other guild members to pick it up, I decided to claim the request earlier today… so I got to practice with the tablet and Painter Classic again, which is always good. After some hours, here’s Captain Rhen Sannin all made up and prettied, complete with blue milk on the side, cyborged limb and a datapad. Click here for its SWAG entry page. Hope this artwork gets some mileage in your campaign, buddy.

Two Alien SWAG Requests

It’s been a while since I took some time off to draw requests for SWAG. Here are two new characters: Colonel Toby Aambar, as requested by “donp” and Whistler, as requested by “Velovich”. Toby is an Ortolan not an ortolan, and Whistler is a Tynnan, whose species first appeared in Brian Daley’s Han Solo’s Revenge. Click to expand images: [[popup file=”swag_aambar.jpg” description=”(thumbnail)” alt=”Toby Aambar” align=”left” ]] [[popup file=”swag_whistler.jpg” description=”(thumbnail)” alt=”Whistler” align=”left” ]]

Kaydra Leeronel

A Donovian Technician on SWAG

Here’s Frobi-wan Kenobi’s request which I did on Star Wars Artists’ Guild, a female tech from the rainy world of Donovia, Kaydra Leeronel. Click here to read the request thread. Click here to see a bigger picture on SWAG. Click here to an even bigger picture on deviantArt. Click here to play Chasm. It’s Irfan new favourite game and it has nothing to do with this post at all.

Gungan Slicer, A SWAG Request

[[popup:gunganslicer.jpg:(thumbnail):… with a bad attitude:left:1]]My first official completed SWAG request since this blog went live is done. The artwork was requested by Acheron and he wanted a picture of a Gungan slicer (a Star Wars term for a hacker, is all). So, here’s a purple skinned Gungan like Captain Tarpals, wearing a headgear with a comlink and a blaster pistol, quickly typing on the keyboard to retrieve some restricted data from a computer database. Hopefully, he isn’t discovered by guards any time soon. As a bonus, here’s a SWAG blog (Swog?) entry of the picture taking it through three days as a work-in-progress in this laptop, from its pencil work in Painter Classic to what it turned out to be.

The Return of SWAG

[[image:swaglogo01.gif:SWAG banner:left:0]]Five years ago today, a bunch of tabletop roleplayers and artists and web programmers who met by chance on SWRPGNetwork’s Holonet Forums and shared a common dream (well, two really) finally launched the Star Wars Artists’ Guild after months of planning. One of the founding members was me. The Guild was created in order to create Star Wars artwork for the RPG, whether it be D6 or d20 or even if you made GURPS or Wushu or Fate games out of the setting. Today, in the hands of Kris Vanderwater, SWAG is relaunched (using Drupal replacing the old pMachine as its content management system) and all that’s old is new again. Thanks for your effort in relaunching the site, Kris, and Happy 5th SWAGDay. And also thanks to everyone from Bob Rogers, Chris Curtis, Derek Jones, Daniel Falconer and all the others who helped conceive and ran it initially […]

Blue Harvest

Blue Harvest

I’m a bit late for last month’s SWAG Theme Art Contest, entitled “Blue Harvest”. The subject matter alludes to the working title for the movie Return of the Jedi during its filming, to throw rabid Star Wars fans off its trail. It’s also the name of a fanzine in the early 90s, which I contributed some art and writing to. So what’s blue and likely to be harvested in the Star Wars universe? To view a bigger image, check out its entry at deviantArt.

The Vacation is Over

The Vacation Is Over – For These Younglings

Round Five of the Star Wars Artists’ Guild Member Theme Art Contest (link dead) is almost over, what with September starting tomorrow and all. So here I am after some hours of pencilling on paper, scanning and finally digitally inking and colouring the illustration for contest participation. The theme is The Vacation Is Over. I can’t think of a more brutal wake up call than when the newly-named Lord Darth Vader marching into the Jedi Temple on Coruscant with the 501st “Vader’s Fist” Legion and slaughtering everyone, including the younglings during Revenge of the Sith. Head on down to DeviantArt for a larger resolution of the image above.

Star Wars: Kramer vs Kramer

For Round Three of the SWAG Member Theme Art Contest (Link dead), everyone was given the theme of It’s A Trap!… except me who has the task of coming up with Star Wars: Kramer vs Kramer, no thanks to my big mouth the previous month. So, here it is without further ado, Star Wars: Kramer vs Kramer – The Battle for Cosmo. Click on the thumbnail to view a larger image (and use the up / down arrow keys to scroll up and down the pop-up if your screen resolution is crappy like mine at 800 x 600), or check out the larger version of the digital painting at deviantArt.

Time to Abandon Ship

Time To Abandon Ship!

It’s time for another round of SWAG‘s Member Theme Art Contest (Link broken)!!!!! Well, actually it’s my first submission, and it’s only the second topic ever. The topic is Time To Abandon Ship! and I wanted to do a free-for-all (during the pencilling I decided to pit Wookiees against Imperial stormtroopers). The guy abandoning ship is the one in the back, not involved in the brawl. It took me the entire length of the movie Regarding Henry on TV for me to digitally pencil, ink and colour this piece. Apologies for the shoddy colouring, by the way. Click on the thumbnail to see the full image, or if you’re game for an even larger image, head on down to where it’s at on deviantArt.

Harloth Graf

Harloth Graf, Naboo Guard

Here’s a portrait of Harloth Graf the Naboo Guard in the Star Wars RPG Sabredart campaign I posted earlier, using Photoshop to pencil and paint the piece. I wish I had a better photo reference of player Stu Cunningham for it, though. Close enough, Stu? Or more work needed? 😉 Click on the image below to expand:
