Time for the bi-weekly update. Thirty eight weeks have passed. I am constantly surprised at how much larger I keep getting, but I’m assured by the doctors that we are where we should be. It probably doesn’t help that I am chowing down on oreo cookies as I write this entry! 😉 Weekly check up this morning went well – things are good. Getting close – pretty much any time now, although they are predicting that the baby might even go beyond the due date. Yikes to how big the baby might end up if I go beyond the due date! But anyway, Mak and Abah will be arriving next week, so we are excited. We are painting the nursery and will be picking up some baby gear this weekend (you know we can’t leave the hospital with the baby without a car seat – that’s part of the rules). […]

Boy or Girl? DON’T TELL US! – Part 5
Technically, in the U.S. healthcare system, we would be done with ultrasounds and see the baby for real when (s)he is born. However, at last week’s checkup, the doctor thought the baby might be large so we were sent to get an extra ultrasound to get a baseline of the estimated size of the baby. Not to mention, we have a history of high birth weights in both our families (Vin was 10 lb 3 oz – 4.5 kg, and Yope was 9 lbs and has a big head!). This morning we went for the ultrasound. Here’s the news. As of this morning, the estimated weight of the baby in utero is 8 lb 4 oz (+/- 15 oz). So the range right now is 7 lb 5 oz to 9 lb 3 oz (3.3-4.2 kg). Another two weeks have passed, and again, I have grown like crazy. I feel like I should have a man with a top hat standing around yelling “Come one, come all!! Witness the amazing growing Sila!!!! Limited engagement!!!” What more can I say but look! OK, I know I usually do an update on the belly progress every four weeks, but now in the last few weeks of the third trimester, it seems like it’s growing exponentially. I think my belly is growing on a daily basis! Check it out! So Zarin (atukku!) spent a few days with us (May 16-22) during which time, I regret to say that even though I brought my camera everywhere, I didn’t take as many pictures as I should have. Too busy chatting and hanging out and eating. What to do? I haven’t had this kind of time to hang out with Zarin since our college days (and since Zarin came for the 10th Year reunion, that’s as many years since we’ve had the luxury of hanging out like this). We did plan some activities to do (other than hanging out!). On Saturday, we went to watch the Cincinnati Reds play against the Cleveland Indians (Interleague Play). Time seems to be flying on by! We are now at 32 weeks, as of this past Monday. 80% of the way there now! Feeling big and getting bigger… [[image:32week1.jpg:The traditional shot:center:0]] Here’s a different angle of me, where you can really see that the belly is getting rather large… [[image:32week3.jpg:I’m feeling big:center:0]] And the treat of the week, Zarin came for a visit!! Baby is moving around pretty constantly, and I can totally feel the liveliness. A favorite is to elbow my bladder at the most inopportune time. But for the most part, we are both doing well. I’m feeling pretty good still. Hopefully I will remain feeling good while baby gains the most weight in the next few weeks… 😉

So today, we went to do a 3D/4D ultrasound of the baby. Today (s)he is 31 weeks and 1 day old. The whole experience was awesome! We saw some facial features, we saw him/her move, even looked like (s)he yawned at one point. It was one of the best experiences ever! And we’re not even worried that you’ll be able to tell if (s)he is a boy or a girl. Seriously for these you won’t be able to tell the baby’s sex (because we can’t). The lady who conducted the ultrasound was really really good, she didn’t show us anything we didn’t want to see, and tried her best to get the best shots of the baby. Take a look! Monday marked the 28th week of the pregnancy. We are now 70% of the way! Another 12 weeks or so to go!! Time seems to just be flying by. The shirt isn’t snug over the belly, but believe me, there’s a pretty big one under there! I can’t believe it. Four more weeks have passed since the Halfway Mark! We are now 60% of the way there. I think there’s been more progress on the belly in the last four weeks though. What do you think? [[image:24weeks.jpg:Growing Belly:center:0]] I’m feeling pretty good, all things considered. Aches and pains that are considered “normal”, sure. Lots of whining to poor Vin, of course, but on the whole both baby and I are doing well. Baby does a bunch of moving around these days, which is a cool yet bizarre experience. Seems like the “flutters” are growing stronger now. (This post not brought to you from my cell phone since I refuse to get a phone that does all those crazy things! It will only be extra ways that work people can get a hold of me!) 😉
